Anybody out there with a Fever 29 twin?
I have had my 29 Fever for about a month and have had the opportunity to play with trim and weight to check the performance. The boat tested at 71 at the factory with 60 gallons of fuel and the driver who I assume knows a bit more than I about it's performance. The sheet said 71 mph at a setting of 5 on the drives and 3 on the tabs. It was, however, a 92 degree day. I too have seen 71 on the gps speedo with two people and nearly full fuel. The best speed was gotten with the drives at 5.3 or so and the tabs at 3...the highest they will go. Has any one taken off the tab limiters and gained any speed? Also, the boat was delivered with B1 26" props. I turn 5300+ rpm but do not seem to hit the limiter. Any one tried the 28 stock units? Any input would be appreciated. Winter's comin' up my way and only have about two weeks left to play. Regards to all.

The tabs on my 2002 single are set so that 3 is perfectly level with the bottom of the boat. They go all the way up to the top and all the way down to the bottom of the indicator. Same for # 3 on the drive. Pretty much the way it came from the factory but I had to adjust 1 side a little.

Thanks for the info...love your "handle"! What power do you run, prop, etc., and what kind of performance do you get? Just curious as to what others are doing.

Gferdon,
What year, size engines, HP etc. I have a 91' with twin 454 MAGS in it. Written test report says 76MPH with 60 gals and 90 degrees with one person aboard. I checked with other 29 owners and they said you will not pick up any more speed by taking the collars off. It is more of a safety device. I did however cut about 1/4 inch off each end of the collars and the tab indicators went up another 1 point. It put the boat right on the edge. Any more and the boat would be unstable. Now, I did add stellings extension boxes and hydraulic steering. I also put Gil Exhausts on, crossovers and new Crane Cams and valvetrain. After all the upgrades and adjustments I run about 80-81GPS. And it is still turn key. Let me know if you have any other "?"s. I've had mine for 7 years now and I still love it. I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio and the boat is all Black with Red interior. |
Sounds like a great ride...7 years, that boat must be like a member of the family! I have a 2004 just a month old and powered by twin 6.2 mpi's. I may try to trim the limit collars just to see what happens. I do feel the boat is a bit heavy in the stearn...tends to porpoise at slower speeds and needs a bit of drive and trim attention to calm it down. I imagine yours has some of the same problem with the 454's you must be a couple of hundred pounds heavier in the stearn. I am pretty sure 71 is the best I will see without major mods so I will live with it for now. I am on the North Shore on Long Island and run in salt water...probably good for one or two mph. Thanks for the update, have a good winter.

funny seeing you out here! Been boating - Call me - I lost your number - my phone went in the river AGAIN! LP |
gferdon,
Do you boat on the Chain in N. Illinois? If so we met last weekend on the Shiver on the River run. My 13 year old dock monkey came up with Fountainclimber because he hangs onto the rope while he stands in the cockpit. There is a 38 on our lake called "Drinking Fountain". I like that one! |

Home # 385 1647 Cell #478 3680 Dad is taking the boat down to Daytona Beach for the winter. Maybe I'll get to use it more over the winter than I did this summer. Later |

Hey guys, post some pics of your 29's. I would love to see them.
I have 9 hours on my 2004. Single HP525, Bravo XR spinning a 26. I have not run in the salt yet but can go 80 in the lake. The test report indicates a WOT situation of a 5 on the drive & a 2 on the tabs. I try to run the tabs at least 2 & usually the drive at 4, I have run no tab & she gets a little hairy past 60 in chop. Anyway, love the damn thing... |
Great lookin' 29, I will have to send a pic of mine soon. Finally got a chance to run it with low fuel load and by myself. Still only got 71.4 on the gps and rpm was way up - 5400. I really need to change to B1 28" props or maybe a pair of Hydros...next season I think. Did have one strange thing happen, with the lower amout of fuel and doing some porpoising the left engine began to surge. I am going to check it out again tomorrow to see what gives. Anyone else have this problem?
