What are the 2 warning lights on each side of the speedo on twin engines for?

Mine decided to go off today and damn things WOULD NOT stop. Ruined my last day of the yr. :mad:

They can't be for low oil pressure or overheat. All the Gaffrig gauge warning lights are off. Gauges read normal. Oil level full.

With both motors running: it sounds.

Run 1 motor, 1 motor off: no sound. (This should eliminate a problem with the running motor??)
1 motor running, other motor off, but key in run position: no sound. Oil press gauge warning indicators light up on non running motor, which is right.

Drive oil above low limit, so should be fine. I also used a jumper wire across the leads just to eliminate a faulty drive oil sender. No change

SO, what are these 2 warning lights for????? Both lights flash and sound at same time, never just 1 of them.

I am of no help on this other than the fact that I have the both warning lights on my single engine Fountain. So I think they all have both lights.
I assumed that the port side was water & the starboard was oil issues.
Could it be a grounding prob?

I think the two red lights and the loud buzzer are just hooked into the stock Merc warning system. Fountain just adds them to make it more noticeable when the Merc system senses a problem. Both lights and the buzzer will sound if any of the Merc sensors sees a problem. I think that any one of these conditions will sound the Merc system: low oil pressure, high water temp, and low drive oil level.

One other thing to think about. Do you have the Gaffrig Red Line gauges with the little red warning LEDs? Fountain may incororate these into its warning system also.

Yes on the red line gauges. The alarm sounded even when none of the LEDS were lit though.

I did hose out the bilge in the morning before hand and left the water in to slop around, but not enough to activate the pumps. Maybe 2-3 gals at most. I didn't spray the motors, just the hull bottom in order to scrub. The alarm has sounded a few other times this summer only at start up, but went off after a minute or so. At those times bilge was dry.

I believe Ron is correct about the lights being wired off the Merc warning system. I think the mercury senders turn on the ground when a problem occurs. Jumping the wires would complete the ground and set off the alarm. When my drive reservoir went bad I pulled one of the wires which took care of the buzzer.

So possibly I have a warning sender that went south. Or worse yet, a pinched wire. Will start trouble shooting.

Wonder why that during this summer, a couple of times 1 of the motors would die after startup and I didn't catch it until trying to get on plane that the warning alarm didn't go off? I would have thought that with key on and no oil pressure, the alarm would have sounded.

You are correct. If the engine quits there is a short delay then the dreaded BUZZZZER! Nothing like electrical gremlins.

The warning lights also come on if you run out of gas.:D

Guess then at that point, I don't need to be conscerned about the low oil pressure lite ?
