27,29,32

Looking for some feedback on overall ride and performance between 27,29 and 32. Is there that much of a difference in ride between a 27 to 29 to ....32.

Is it worth the extra dollar to go with a larger hull and twin motors or is a single SC big block in a smaller hull ok?

Looking for an 80 to 85 mph boat, and not sure if we have to go to a 32 to handle the speed.

I had a 27 with a blower that would run 83. Boat was great, but you gotta watch what's going on when running at that speed. Very comfortable at 70mph though.
I now have a 32, big difference in ride. It takes at least twin HP500's to break 80mph in the 32's. Stock 502 mags put you right at 75-76.

29' w/575 should get you there:)

A 29' should handle 80 mph fine.

We owned a 27 with a 500 H.P and a 32 with twin 500 H.P's. Were are you boating? Their is no comparison in their ride. The 32 because of the weight of 2 motors and a longer bottom rides alot better in rougher conditions. The 27 is a nice boat as long as you match the boat to the conditions, lakes, rivers ect. Having 2 motors is a little insurance if one quits your not dead in the water. Water test both in conditions you intend to boat in. Like 105_38 said the 29 is probably the best of both worlds, more cockpit room, and will handle the extra power if you ever put more hp in the motors.

I have a 29 and a 32, both twins. The 29 has warmed over 502s, about 575 HP. and runs 91-93, This boat is a hand full. You have to drive it and be extremely careful in sloppy water. At 85 to 88 is drives great. The 32 has 572's and runs 100 plus and is on a string in smooth water but is a little squirmish in a slop. As far as I am concerned I would never have another single. If you can afford it go twins.

LPBoater 12-13-2003 10:00 AM

Twins for sure!! The ride, performance and sound make all well worth it. I would recommend you consider the 35 as well. Not too much more than a 32, but even better ride. A well dialed in 35 will run away from a 32 even with the same power

epeek 12-14-2003 07:37 AM

I think if your going used, theres not that much of a
price differentail from a 29 to a 32. I like twins,my
32 handles great, but I think it gets a little wild
in the slop at high speeds. Our lake has alot
of boat traffic,so there are some serious wakes
to deal with. I say,the bigger,the better.:)

I own an 04 29 w/ a HP 525.

speedo or GPS???

car54driver 12-14-2003 05:47 PM

Hey LPBoater, I've never had a 35 run away from my 32. I think it's a power to weight thing.

Purepower,

83mph is doing great considering that a 575 can only push it to 80-83???? Do you have a F1 boat??

CRD
The 27 and 29 compared to a 32 is totally different. A 32 is going to ride allot better, and burn twice as much gas and twice as much up keep, oil changes, valve springs, changing props and so on. I would say go with a 27 or a single 29 until you are ready to choke up some big bucks and then go for a 35 or 38. But thats just my plan. Oh a 27 will do around 69 w/496HO, with a 500efi tops around 74mph or 71 full gas and 5 people.

No, no F1 boat.
The factory Fountain test report that I got with the boat showed 80 wot.
I can get 83 here in the salt water. That's what the GPS speedo says anyway.

Thanks for all the feedback....

What would you expect for a top speed for a 27 w/ a 525sc?

carney 12-23-2003 07:37 AM

I would think a 27 with 525sc would run mid 80's . We have a 27 with hp500 .This boat would be a hand full in the wrong water with a 525.

Mid 70's under normal summer loads & conditions. Neightbor had a 95 that went mid 70's with a 525sc. Reggie says a 500EFi will run 73+ my 27 with a 454 mag ran 65 and on it's best day 67.9 with no fuel and stars in alignment.

I love the ride of my 32 with 502mpis, 74.6 and I can get her loose for some thrill,,,,, not a boring ride like a 35....... 1992 32 for sale...... let me know????

Fountaineer 03-24-2004 12:47 PM

I own a 1997 29 with a Teague 509 Blower motor and I see 89 on the Gaffrig speedo. Once you get over 80 it can get a little squirly.

I have an 04 29 Fever with hp 525. Fountain spec sheets 0ffers 80 just like pure power. Took delivery in November, ran it for 45 minutes. Hit 76 without WOT - just a quick check it out cruise. I am sure the 80 is real- she definetly had more in her, and I am sure that a dialed in 04 will hit 81 -- 83. I think Pure Power is right on. When I was looking to upgrade from my Baja I called everyone and looked at every review for several different boats before I choose this one. I called Fountain who told me that on the newer Fevers they had "played" with the X axis quite a bit and found more MPH in that hull. Perhaps this accounts for the difference in a 97 vs an 04.

When I replace this I am going to the 35. I think it is enough better than the 32 to spend the cash. If you need 2 engines I would go 35.

I'm in the same situation, 32' or 35'. What boat is faster with 700 hp? I have to sell my 27', who wants to go fast?
