What are these?

The holes on both sides below the swim plateform.

I believe that on older Fountains with swim platforms, the area where the vents are had no way to drain if they got water in them and since there were not integral to the design of the transom, it was easier to put vents/drains on the outside.

I think newer models have a small hole that does drain into the bilge.

I have seen large holes with no grill covers on an other all black Fountain.

Just my guess.
