Fountain Speeds

I just bought a 99 42' with HP500's, Bravo I's turning a 26p Bravo I prop. The boat barely runs 70mph on GPS. Does this sound reasonable?

I am look for what types of speeds others are seeing and what motor\drive combinations they are using.

My 99 42 went 83 with 31 hydromotives. But you better get some XR's because those bravo's wont last long. I had 500 efi's

congradulation on your new boat, i hope your as happy with your as i have been with mine a 98 42 with 500's side by side. i see 78 every day regardless of fuel load and people. and will see 80-82 with low fuel and cool weather. im sure that your boat did not come with the 26,s i run a bravoI 28 labbed at 5100-5200 and in cool weather im at the limiter 5350.

Go Big what rpm were you turning at that speed what was your drive settings?

It turns 5200 to 5300 depending on the trim. Trim at the 3 to 4 range seems to work the best. I thought it was a little shy on the top end. It comes out of the hole like a bat outa hell. I pulled a ski racer last weekend and almost pulled his arms off getting up.

80's with T-500's is a nice punch with that 42'er for the investment. Looks like more are coing out staggered.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to do some prop changes this weekend and see what I can come up with.

Ok, Not to bad of a weekend but I think there is more. I put a set of Mirage 28p and and gained about 5 mph. With a full load and full tanks it ran 73mph at just under 5100rpm. I imagine with less people and fuel I should see 78. I still think I'm a little short of 80-82. I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the great input.

I just ordered some Lab Finished Bravo 1's 28p. They will be in by this weekend so I'll give everyone an up date as to the outcome.

mirage wont carry the nose and i have found that to make them really run you have to stretch them out 5-6 on the trim.

I found that out with the 28's last weekend. With the 26's anything above 4 would cavitate. When I put the 28’s on, right away it felt higher out of the water. Hopefully the new labed 28’s will be just right. I’ll let you know next week. Thanks for the help.

Ok, Ran the new 28 Labs this weekend. Not to impressed. It ran 73 loaded, and hit 5200 rpm. The non labed 28's I demo'ed stoped at 5050 and ran just as fast. Any idea's.
