switch from single engine hatch to two?
I currently have one (heavy) single engine hatch and I would like to switch to the twin style that hinges on the sides any Ideas how to do it as cheep as possible and still look good?

Re: switch from single engine hatch to two?
I have looked at the 38 Fevers and compaired the newer ones to my 89 with the single hatch and noticed that the fiberglass is contoured around the hinges. Mine is contoured around the hinges at the rear and the newer ones are contoured on the side. Is it really worth it to make the change? Mine may be heavier but I would not know because of the elec. ram. I have also noticed some of the newer Lightnings using a single hatch that has to be even heavier because part of the seat back is attached to the hatch.

The Reasoning Is It Seems To Make It Alot Easier To Work On And To Save Some Weight (a Litter Faster?)

Re: switch from single engine hatch to two?
I would think that it would be heavier. You would have extra framing around the split in the hatch. Twice the hinges and an extra hatch ram and hardware.
I have spent a lot of time working on mine and have not had any clearance issues but have not worked with the twin hatches. To remove the engines I will probably remove the hatch. |
