1996 1 Step Lighting What Speeds

:eureka: 1996 1 Step Lighting What Speeds
I HAVE 1996 1 STEP LIGHTING W/ 502'S HYDO'S 27 PITCH 4 BLADES RUNNING 4600 RPMS AND SEEING 63 TO 64 GPS. I TRIM IT UP TO 4 TO 5 ON INDICATORS AND NO TAB.
I HAVE HEARD IN THE 80'S I AM YET TO SEE IT.

A VERY STABLE BOAT HAVE TO USE SOME TAB TO MAKE RUN LEVEL IN THE 3000 TO 4000 RPM RANGE. RUNS RIGHT OVER 3 FOOT WAVE IN THE 4400 TO 4600.

WHAT SPEEDS ARE YOU ALL SEEING AND HOW DID YOU GET THERE. WHERE ARE TABS AND TRIM? WHAT PROP?

What size Lightning? A friend had a '95 35 with 502's and he was seeing mid 70's. You should definately be running faster than 63.

99 35 lightning single step w/ 502 magnums (efi) spinning 23p Mirage Plus' through 1.36 Bravo 1s. I see 5100 rpm and 78-79. I have twice seen 80.3 with very light fuel and passengers.

4000 RPM equals 60 mph and 30 gph total, almost irrespective of the fuel and passenger load.

Tab and drive settings vary based upon the conditions and "heartiness" of the passengers.

Fountain will fax you the speed report on your boat. Give them hull ID and you should be upper 70's at minimum. 62-63 something is severely wrong. My 1993 35 non step does 75 502's carb.

TOMMY HIWAVE,
I would think 78 if everything is set up correct. Are you spinning the props in? The Hydro's will give the best top end numbers but the midrange suffers. You need to get your engines into the correct RPM range which would be in the 5000- 5150 rpm range wot. I would think a 26 pitch hydro would work better than the 27. Try to hook up with a prop shop that will let you demo the props without buying them to see what works. Also try a set of Bravo 4 blades. They work really well. Where do you have the boat trimmed at 3000 rpm?

How do the Mirage plus's perform compared to the hydro's and Bravo's?

Re: 1996 1 Step Lighting What Speeds

I have a 1998 model 1 step, 35' lightning with 502 mag mpis. The boat currently runs 75-77 mph with the factory 26 hydros at 5100 RPMs. I have stepped up to 28 bravo I's and I'm running 78 mph at 5000 rpms, but I haven't run it with low fuel and few passengers.

Sounds like you may have something going on. before you spend alot of time and money with props I would have someone hook it up to the computer and make sure the boat is running properly. Have the codes checked for any errors, etc. When I first purchased my boat used with only 70 hrs on it, three of the plugs were fouled out because the plug wires were bad. The boat was only running 63 mph. After plugs were replaced and the boat was properly tuned it was hello 77mph.

Best of luck.
