dock lines, anchor etc.
 

I'm getting close to putting the boat in the water. Been restoring a 1990 38 fever. It's been alot of time & $. I forgot what size dock lines to get (5/8 thick?) and how many and what length. Bouys- size & how many. Anchor (Danforth) & how much chain and rode etc. Thanks Poolshrk :D

Lines on a 38 would normally be 5/8 but Fountain uses smaller hardware than most on it's 38's since they are considerably lighter than let's say a Sea Ray, etc. Best you can hope for is 1/2 inch for a decent fit on the cleats. Get a 3' piece of line and see what works best. I also recommend at least 6 lines (color matched to the boat of course!)...4 30' dock lines and 2 spring lines @ 30' if you have mid-ship cleats or 45' if not. I assume by "bouys" you mean fenders. My advice is get the biggest (diameter) that you can store easily. Also, choose a dark color such as black or dark blue, etc., it won't show the dirt as much and easier to clean. For storage, nothing is as neat and clean as the stainless baskets that mount on the underside of the engine hatch but VERY expensive, your choice. As for anchors, nothing beats the Fortress high tensile aluminium anchor. They are amazingly light and easy to handle and have excellent holding power. gferdon's suggestions are great but I would also include some shorter lines for those times where you tie off at the gas dock and if you do any rafting. The longer lines can be very cumbersome for those temporary situations.

I keep very large fenders that wont fit under the rear bench so they are stowed in the head. Mine are PolyForm #G-6 and are 10-12" in diameter and are about 30" long.

1/2" line. Do include some shorter lengths. My black fenders look good and I rarely have to clean them. Get 6' whips for the fenders. I have Taylor Made and they fit under rear bench seat 3 of them. They are 10 x 30.

No chain needed. Stores nice. I will get one someday, I made the mistake and bought a Danforth style (upside-down "V"), works OK till wind starts blowing hard. Also, keep a 2nd mini Danforth for the stern at the beach. Keeps ya straight.

I have 100' 3/8 line for anchor with 6' chain coated in white, no chain needed for slide anchor!

I think 1/2" would be fine for the lines. And I recomend a box anchor from Slide Anchor. They work great and store very easy under the rear seat. I also have the sand spike which is also great. Check their site out WWW.SlideAnchor.com
