I will give you guys some insite on some power loss on my 35 with 525sc's. I did a leak down on the motors and found that they needed to be rebuilt. I rebuilt the motors and they ran great BUT. The rpm was not there. I sent my props out and had them labbed down, The rpm came up to 5200 with is close to the 5250 that merc wanted. The boat still did not have any top end. I found that the rotors were slipping a little on the dist shaft. I locktited the new rotor on the shaft, let it set up for 24 hours, I then set the timing to the factory spec of 35 at 4500. Took the boat out for a test and could put the motors on the revlimiters at 3/4 throttle. I then had to buy another pair of 28 Bravos, This put the motors at 5250 and 85mph on gps. the boat runs great and the timing stays put.

I recently purchased a '99 Lightning (classic) carbed HP500's - I first tested it w/27 hydros & results 4800 rpm 74 - 75 GPS - I then put a set of labbed 28 Bravo 1's 5000 rpm 77-78 I'm wondering also if my motors are down on power? I'm going to most likely do valve springs over the winter - will this net me any speed gains??

Do a leak down test first. you may find that the heads must come off. If the test is good ,just do the springs. I just did a hp500 this summer springs , caps and keepers, the boat ran the same.

:D check, 250 plus hours , could have tird value springs , string line the bottem of hull check for a hook in hull. then trythe prop thing
