42 Lightning With 540's and XR's???

I have my engines sitting in my garadge waiting to be torn down.
I've been bouncing around the idea of stroking them out to 540cu in.
The horsepower I'm hoping to get out of it should be around 650.
The drives are XR's with 2"Sprortmaster shorties with P5 Hydros.
I'm going to have the uppers setup by Mr.Gadgets.
Is anyone running 540's/XR's in their 42's ???
I'd like to know what kind of performance gains achieved and most
importantly how well the drives hold up.
Some folks tell me stroking the blocks will create too much torque
for the drives and others say it will be OK as long as I'm easy with the sticks
getting out of the hole(which I am anyway).
Any insite would be appreciated.
Dennis

I would think you'll be OK with XR's...
What RPM do you plan on spinning the motors at?...for 650NA/HP I would guess your looking at new heads, cams, carbs, and intakes?
It might be cheaper to do some BlowerShop 8-71's and 750 Holleys pushing 4-5psi for that HP.
Hey look what I found in my puter :drink:

Mark,

Presently I'm turning 5,600RPM on my 502's with Brodix plus2 heads,
cam,msd,and carb.
I'll have to go to new rotating assembly, cam, carb etc.

Might not be a bad IDEAL :D to go the blower route.

I like the pic............ :drink: had a lot of fun that day!!!

I have a customer that we changed the pulleys on 575's that now make about 600-615 w/ XR's and no problems @120 hrs.

Just go easy out of the whole and watch the big waves.

I am running Bravos on my 540's so far all good. I think XR's would be fine. Tom
