Cooltoys,
I have a 91' 29 fever with big blocks and per the written test report dry weight is 6400LBS. I wood say that is close, give or take 100LBS each way....but per my test report 6400LBS. Have you done any mods or the engines still stock??? I have 454 mags....with upgraded Crane Hydraulic cams gil exhausts and I added stellings boxes and hydraulic steering. Best speed was 81 MPH GPS on a cool fall day.....mostly 76-79 depending on how many people. Let me know if you need any other Info....Nick |

I put 7.4 vortec motors(mk VI) with the ZZ502 cam. Took off the silent choice, added Rev Marine exhaust, 800 DP on a Dart oval port intake. I guess around 450 HP and have not tweaked yet but getting about 79 on speedo with 29" Hydros truning 4600. Awesome holeshot and midrange. I thought since a new 29 single was 5500 or so I would be at 7000. I need to wiegh the boat with trailer,,Myco says about 1500 for the trailer. Imay get anal and dock the boat and weigh it too. Thanks, I hope its really 6400. But that means I'm only makin' 420HP or so :(

Oh well,, maybe even less, but I did pick up 7 mph from my 365hp magnums.

Re: anyone know weight on a 29'twin bbc,1990?
I had a 1991 29 with twin 525 blower motors 5300rpm with 28 hydro's the boat would run 83 all day long on gps, I had to take the wish bone and all other parts out , to add gill offshore exhaust and get the ass out of the water it looked like it was sinking. The boat weighed 6500. What is pretty neet is the 2002 29 fountain with a single 525efi will run 80 all day long . A friend of mine has one the twin blower motors have a hole lot more out of the hole, but they run pretty close on top.

Calculate Lbs/Hp for a 5400 single with 525HP and a 6500# twin with 800HP total. The diff. according to the boat speed Calc. on go-fast.com is 10mph. I agree it's impractical for a lake boat that size to have twins but much easier to reach top speeds. It's all up to #'s per HP and the bottom and X-dim.That's about it.

Did you weigh the boat? Trailer? Thanks

Not sure of the weight, but here is a pic of my buddies old 1991 with 575's. Ran around 90 with 30 Spinelli's. Sat very low in the back.

Re: anyone know weight on a 29'twin bbc,1990?
Sharp boat. Mine had waterlogged upholstery and iron exhaust with silent choice,,looked like it was going down. Removed all that stuff and it raised a couple of inches but still very low,,but that's one reason I love the Fountain look. I might feel diff in the big water. I hear all the time about singles being just as fast, don't get me wrong, I was looking for a single when I ran across a deal on twins. But here's how I see it and how the physics of it HAS to work;
Say you got a boat with a 500HP single that weighs 5500 lbs+200lb person+200lbs gas=5900lbs/500HP=11.8lbs/HP You can keep that same performance level if for every lb. of person, fuel, or motors you add. So a twin with 2 x 454's might weigh about 1100 lbs more,,,6600+200+200=7000lbs,,if you divide that by the 11.8lb/HP result you get the total HP needed to overcome the additional weight of the other motor and drive,,,,593. This doesn't mean it will be exact but gives a good idea of what I'm talking about. It also doesn't take into account the higher X dim of twins or the advantage of torq, which is usually proportionately higher on a mild motor compared to a hotter one(two 330HP big blocks will probably have more torque than one 660 HP big block). Using the same efficiency rating for the bottom both boats would go around 73 but the boat with twins of 450HP each will be closer to 90. I have punched in several known results on diff boats and this thing is pretty close. The main thing is deciding what factor to use for the bottom and being honest with yourself. You can also work backward to find your HP , etc IF you know the weight and what bottom factor to use. Plus it's lots of fun in the winter or to debunk some guy claiming 75mph on an 8000lb boat with 2-330's. go-fast.com ,then go to "knowledge base" then "boat speed calc" I've heard people also say their boat was exactly as fast with 6 people and full tanks as empty,,BS. Lbs/HP tells nearly all in any vehicle unless you get fast enough for aerodynamics to overcome. |
Re: anyone know weight on a 29'twin bbc,1990?
the torque is the most important feature of the twins. With bigger water the twins will run much faster beacuse you can put the tabs down a bit and still have the torque to push the boat through it. With a single motor and tabs down, the torque is not there to keep the boat moving.
