Drove a 42X today....

Anyone have any experiences with it? I really liked it... smooth as glass and seemed to have respectable acceleration and we hit 83 GPS with about 3/4 full of gas. Lotsa room and I am sure it will chew up some waves.
Thoughts ?

Thanks Jim

83 on 525's I presume?

that's still strong with that much fuel.
What was the water?
modded or stock props?

Seems like a sure thing 85 mph, light, in some chop.

It is a h ell of a performance/size bargain it seems.

Guys,
Pound for pound, horsepower for horsepower and dollar for dollar, you can't beat Fountain. The 42 with staggered motors is my dream boat, but not in the cards for me right now.. I have 2 ex wives, three kids and a girlfriend so I'll have to enjoy my 04 29 .. Its smooth, safe, well made and reliable.

If you are looking for a Fountain call Vinny at Mariners Cove Fountain... 631 283 7001 or 631 728 0286.. They got the Fountain dealership in NY Metro right around the time I bought my boat. Even though they didn't sell it to me they have provided me with some of the best service I have ever gotten in my 20 years of boating..

Good luck if you go for the 42.....

57 degrees/air, about the same? water temp, fresh water, smooth as glass conditions and 525s w/ 32 B1 props, not lab finished.

I am moving up from an 03 29 w/525efi.

I noticed a small amount of prop blow out with the boat... is that normal?

masher i dont have a ex but do have 98 classic deck with side by side's with 500hps. it is my second 42 had a 90 before. ive been in the 42 both straight bottom and big step for near 10yrs. the blow out is usually only coming on plane nice an easy is usually the trick the hydro's were worse at blow out then the bravo's my 500's run right at 80 even with 300 hrs. the 42 has been a excellent boat for me at LOTO were we routinely get into sloppy water. ive heard the 525 boats are seeing 83-85 which is jamming i came close to buying a new EX last year but decided to keep my 98 and for go the new boat issue.

Later, Am I correct by saying the deck on the new X is the same as yours? the bottom too?
I loved the ride and yes it was only slight blowout coming on plane. It wasnt as snappy as my 29, obviously but it was a sweet ride. That boat could handle big time HP!

Re: Drove a 42X today....

The Executioner is the original 42 lightning made from 90-to present. in 98 when i ordered my boat the tall windsheilds and taller deck had just came out i was not fond of them so ordered what came to be known as the classic deck. the difference between my boat and the EX is i have side by sides and not staggereds and the difference is the cockpit space has 15-18inch more room between the back seat and the frt seats and the helm seat is set back several inchs giving you more space. as for as performance i have yet to see any real mph difference between the staggered and side by sides. As for the bottom i understand that the late 05's have a different bottom. also there is a difference in the bottoms from big HP #6 boats and the others. the 42's will handle just about any HP you can throw at it. im quessing when its time for rebuilds ill look at trying to get 600hp are so for around 90mph.
good luck

Is the ITS system optional? the X I drove did not have it....

Re: Drove a 42X today....

i have not seen any 42's with the ITS system i think that there is no benifit to the stand off boxes on the 42 because of the agressive notch in the transom.

couple of questions

do the staggered motors make it tougher when docking and handling in tight situations?

does anybody have a good feel as to the real speed benefit?

does staggering the motors benefit the ride and handling in rough water?

thanks

Yes ... tougher to dock !

Speed diff .... Minimal ... as a matter a fact some hulls are actually faster in a side by side configuration.

The real benefit to staggering is a lower / further forward wt. distribution .... flies the boat "more level" .

Re: Drove a 42X today....

I had an 02' 42 with staggered 575's for 3 seasons. I got 88 on the gps and it was a great boat. The staggered did not dock any differently than my previous 35 with side by sides. The only difference in docking were that my drives turned in on my 42 which meant I had to use the throttles and the steering wheel to spin it around. The stagger makes a cool rooster!!!

Masher,
There is another boat in Dallas you should try,
I talked to you briefly awhile back when you were looking at a 37 Outerlimits and got the owners number for you. I have another boat (not the Outerlimits) in Dallas that will fly. I have sold a bunch of 42's and they are great boats and the ITS is the way to go. This is something a little different and for sure worth the ride. Were you in Austin last week-end? E-mail me for the details.
