Stereo Remote Question
1 Attachment(s)
The remote in this picture....
Is it hardwired to the stereo? Has anybody added one the their transom? If so how hard is the job and where did you purchase remote. |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
yes hardwired
lots of places...kenwood dealer should be able to get one for you or an online stereo place under marine if they have kenwood consumer's marine electronics in Jersey has 'em also $60-70 though I picked up the previous gen (looks slightly different...same shape and functions) at West marine on closeout for $35 it's going in the rear of my formula power (illumination), ground and the signal lead, though it's unclear to me if you have to have a "Y" of sorts at the head unit to run two...or if you can just tap the second one onto the first one's signal wire. |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
They are hard wired, but I think you need a stereo that is compatible for a wired remote.
|
Re: Stereo Remote Question
he already has one!!
|
Re: Stereo Remote Question
I put my Clarion remote on my transom very easy. Just make sure you are clear in the back side before you drill. I had to drill a 2 1/8" hole for the remote. I could not get to the back of the remote to use the remote mounting bracket, so mounted it to the transom with 5200 for now. I am having a nice mounting plate fabricated out of stainless, which is 1/4" larger than the remote. I will mount the remote to it and then mount the plate to the transom.

Re: Stereo Remote Question
I have 2 on my Fountain and you have to have a Kenwood marine stereo head that has the pigtail to plug the hard wire in. A y is not avalible for 2, you just splice the 2 hard wires together. I also installed the Kenwood 10 disc cd changer that also plugs into the receiver with 1 wire.

Re: Stereo Remote Question
my remote has a eye that has to be looking at the sterio, it came with a short lead and i was told that I had to leave it alone. I took the head apart and put a 20foot wire on it . Works fine.

Re: Stereo Remote Question
Summer Heat,
I have a brand new Kenwood wired remote sitting in my closet. Purchased about 2 years ago for my dads boat but his stereo wouldn't support the wired remote. If your interested let me know. |

Summer Heat,
This is a pic of the remote that I have. Looks like it's the older version. Let me know if you're still interested. |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
that's the one(s) I have. Yes, the last generation. Same functionally just different appearance. Never installed?
If Summer Heat isn't interested, I just may be for a spare or a third one. |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
Nope never installed. Should have realized my radio wasn't a marine version before I ordered it. :D Texoman emailed me about it also but if neither him or Summer Heat are interested I'll let you know.

Re: Stereo Remote Question
jmeng, thanks for the pic. I am going to pass and try to find a match to captains remote.
Thanks for the post and chance at a lower cost option.... |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
Got your PM and sent one back. No problem at all. It would probably drive me crazy to have mismatched remotes on my boat but I most people aren't as anal as me. Good luck.
|
Re: Stereo Remote Question
My daughter always says "when it comes to our boats I am the most anal person she has ever met".... and she is right :)
Thanks again |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
Hey Summer Heat,
I just bought a 2003 35 Lightning with that same factory installed Kenwood remote. It looks exactly like the one in your picture. I know there is a newer version of it as well, but I think mine is the older one like yours. I will be taking it out soon (weekend of 4/9/05) to replace the entire system with an Alpine with XM. You can have my old one if you want it. Hell, you can have the CD head unit too if you want it. PM me or email me at [email protected] if you are interested. I've got a close-up picture of it I took for my stereo installer (on my home computer - at work now) I can email just to make sure it's what you want. Paul in Memphis |
Re: Stereo Remote Question

Re: Stereo Remote Question
Summer Heat:
Sorry about that - email should be [email protected] I found a picture of my dash where you can see the remote, but I can't attach it (file too large). Give me your email and I'll send it to you now. Also have more close-ups of it on my home computer that I can send tonight. Here is a link to some pix of my boat: http://www.pier57.com/200335k.htm Will post more later. How do you enable PM's? Re: Stereo Remote Question
Memphis, thanks for the pic, that is the previous version to ours. It's a match to Jmeng's though, so you might have some interest from others here :)
Awesome looking boat. Really dig the short windshield. That is what we put on our's, it just looks fast sitting on the trailer with that shield. Is this your first Fountain? |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
Memphis, If Summer Heat is not interested, I am. I need a replacement head unit and remote and would be interested in purchasing your old components.
Nice looking package. I like the graphics. If you need any engraving done let me know. I can do powder coating and custom laser engraving. Thanks, Todd |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
Summer Heat:
Not only my first Fountain, but my first boat of any kind. Actually it's a funny story. I first purchased a 1999 27 Fever from the same dealership in January 05. Nice, clean, one owner boat, 502 Mag, good for about 70 mph. Never even had it out on the water by myself when I went along for a ride in a 2006 39-foot MTI cat with 1500 hp. The owner of the dealership was with us and told me if I went along, I wouldn't want the 27 any more afterwards. We went 123 mph on GPS and the boat wasn't even dialed in right. The dealer was right. They took the 27 back, applied everything I paid for it towards the new boat, and I bought the 2003 35 Lightning they tried to sell me in the first place. I've had her to 87 on GPS at Pickwick. Will post some pix soon. Todd: Email me around 4/11 and I'm sure we can work something out. Paul in Memphis |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
Memphis,
Hmmmmm 06/MTI from Pier-57, you didn't happen to get a ride in "Speed Racer" did you... To get a ride in any of those MTI's would be a blast. David knows how to make a guy step up :) Our Lightning was first step into performance last summer, can't wait to go down this weekend and fire up the 05 season. Thanks again for the picks, but am going to pass on your offer and try to find a match to the helm remote. |
Re: Stereo Remote Question
Yeah, it was Speed Racer, pictures of it on the Pier 57 site. A guy named Wesley was test driving it and he ended up buying it. It was like an F16 for the water. David knew what he was doing.

Re: Stereo Remote Question

Sending you a PM now. |
Re: Stereo Remote Question

Ovaition here in Indy actually had one in stock that matched, so 69.99 later I have something to do this weekend :) |

I drilled mine out by the cleat, by the swim deck... Right below where the last stud of the rail enters into the deck. Had a friend fish for the wires from the hole & connected them before mounting it. Then carefully just reached back there & put the bracket on, it took some time. All of this was only possible because I'm 6'5 w/ longer than normal arms!!
