An ounce of prevention saves a pound of cure. Sea strainers, GPS, Salt Away. I use CRC on all the mechanicals.

Tides:

The news and forecasters only talk about high tides and low tides. They usually do not make reference to the mean (average) tides. You must must know where the tide is in relationship to the mean tide to determine what is unsafe.

As far a boating is concerned, there can be a high tide that is lower than the mean tide which is still on the low side. And a low tide higher than a mean tide which is on the high side.
