Canoe Races

Hello Everyone-

So who from the Cape Coral/Fort Myers area is planning on going to the Canoe Races on saturday? I will be heading down there with a boat full people and was wondering if anyone wanted to meet up and make the run down togther?

Let me know

Thanks
Don

Maritime_Eng 05-10-2007 11:10 AM

So is anyone goinng to the races or to Keywandin on Saturday?

Specialized 05-10-2007 04:34 PM

Yes we will be there although we only have a 5 min idle to get there

THUNDER-STRUCK 05-11-2007 05:37 PM

I plan to be there can anyone tell me if there are any shallow parts to watch out for coming from the Sanibel bridge, and kind of how to get there my GPS is not working and I will be using a chart.

Specialized 05-11-2007 06:51 PM

If you head south from Sanibel bridge you will turn in @ Gordon's pass (about 25-30 miles) follow the markers in and there will be a T in the channel, going north at the T will take you into Naples Bay(about 1 1/2 miles to the canoe races) and going south at the T will take you to Keywaddin (about 7 miles to total mayhem) as far as shallow parts go upon entering Gordon's you want to stay in the markers as the north side of the pass gets shallow at low tide out about 1/4 to 1/2 mile once in the pass just stay in between the markers and you should be good. when heading south to Keywaddin just follow the steady stream of boats at the Y in the channel and you will get there fine. We will be out tommorrow but will only be on one motor(the other one still making some funny noises)not sure if we will head down to Keywaddin but we will look for you you if you come up to the races. Tommorrow is more about partying that running fast for us

Hope to see you there
John

Where Are The Pics??? :D

Maritime_Eng 05-13-2007 03:53 PM

My girlfriend still has my camera. Once I get that back tonight then I will post some. I know they won't be near the quality of your pictures, but they will at least give you an idea how crazy this place was. Most fun I have had in a long time!

I've got some pics of drunk girls in bikinis hanging around the boats at the Cabana Bar after the run. But I'm sure you guys would rather see pics of the boats, right ? :drink:

NaplesBaja 05-14-2007 12:23 PM

Sometimes its better NOT to have any photos...............it was a very interesting day...............................now I just have to get my swim platform fixed after the 21 ft cc ran into me at the ramp. I was sooooooooo happy!!!!!

cbeastwood 05-14-2007 12:52 PM

John - that sux. Was alcohol involved for the driver of the cc or is that a silly question?!?!? Bet he crapped himself when you told him what you do....

Craig,
Actually the guys girlfriend was behind the wheel when it happened. We were waiting at the dock for ramp space to open up, I hear the motor on the boat behind us rev all the way up and BAM....no one knows what she was even doing with the boat. They have agreed to pay for everything. Just more work that I didn't need to mess with.....Dented and bent the outer tube of the platform. Now I need metal work and re-powder coating done.

jayboat 05-14-2007 11:51 PM

Women drivers!!!

Sorry to hear that John...
when I first read your post, I wondered if you shot him or arrested him!

Hey Don- she makes you look good!

cbeastwood 05-15-2007 07:57 AM

John,

Talk about an instantly-sobering experience...

Good to hear it was just the swim platform - just think about the damage if you didn't have it there: drives, steering, transom, etc.

Maybe John (Specialized) can do the metal work for you?

THUNDER-STRUCK 05-15-2007 03:30 PM

I am still kicking myself for not going to the canoe races my wife was working, and I had people on my boat that had to be back early. I am happy to hear everyone had a good time, John sorry to hear about your boat.

Hey John, I would be happy to look at it if you want.

In related news there was nother 38 special out at Keywadin that had a CC catch his anchor line with his prop. Spun the anchor line up so fast that bow got pulled down to the water and a collision occured between the bow and outboard of the CC.
I now understand why you all decide to stay in the bay vs going to amateur hr out at Keywadin. I ended up playing policeman all day long to protect my boat

Thats why I pulled up by the beach on the north side on Keywadin (almost where the no wake zome starts). I didn't want to have to deal with all that crap. I just walked down the beach with a cooler.....

cbeastwood 05-16-2007 11:45 AM

John,

To pull a 38 Special down that fast with that much force, I'm surprised the CC couldn't stop it in time. Must have been a strange feeling to be on that boat when it was getting pulled down...

Specialized 05-16-2007 01:26 PM

Craig,
When the CC got close to the anchor line he gunned it to try and avoid it which just amplified the effect. when the 38 bobbed back up after the initial pull it nearly lifted the rear end of the CC out of the water.

Bob, I did not have a camera handy at the time but I can say that the last time I saw Nate he appeared to be having quite the time. I think this icon might describe it best:evilb:

Specialized 05-16-2007 01:42 PM

Don, sorry I did not see you out there but rest assured that if I go to Keywaddin again at the canoe races I will be following your plan

I don't think there was any way possible you could have seen me, there had to be a couple hundred boats in between yours and mine. I did see your boat as I was walking around but there was no way I could get to it from shore.

pashn8boater 05-21-2007 04:17 PM

John,
Do you build swim platforms? Or just repair?

Specialized 05-22-2007 05:39 PM

We can build them also but so far just repairing
