October 20th Fun Run Informational Thread
Hello all,
Welcome to the first run of the 2007/2008 Fun Run Season. Joe's Crab Shack on Naples Bay has been kind enough to have us visit for lunch. As their deep water dockage is somewhat limited, the Docks on 5th right next door has extended the use of all of their end docks(8ft deep at low tide) to our group. As we have room for upwards of 30 boats lets start this season off with a bang(and not the blown motor type of bang:D). To all of the regulars I look forward to seeing you and to those that have never run with us before, don't be shy. There are quite a few newer folks that have been posting up over the summer. We hope to see you join us. You don't have to have a 150 mph cat to come run with us. we have boats ranging from cruise speeds of 50 mph all the way up to the sickest machines that Trond and Terry at NorTech can dream up and everywhere in between. All in all it is just a good time with a bunch of like minded souls. And as always there is no entrance fee. Route: Our starting point will be from the north side of the Sanibel Bridge. Boats should assemble around 10:15 AM and we will leave by 10:30 sharp. Marco Island and Naples boats can meet at Gordon Pass at 9:30 AM. From there we will head north to meet the main group of boats by 10:15 AM at the Sanibel Bridge. FMB and Bonita boats can pick us up on the way by or go directly to the SB. When we start our run we will go south under the bridge and running by the Ft. Myers Beach pier. As the pack spreads out The faster boats should break at Wiggins Pass and Gordon’s Pass to get us all back together. Once we get down to Marco Island we should regroup near the outer marker to Capri/Little Marco Pass for an organized entry into Capri Pass Once into the pass all boats should enter a single file formation for the Intercoastal ride back north to Naples Bay. Please note: there are a few idle zones on the inter coastal so please pay attention to the boats in front of you. Also as you come off plane have passengers raise their hands in the air to alert the boat behind you From there we will continue under the bridge and to the right we have dock space reserved at Joe's Crab Shack and the Docks on 5th. We have all of the Dock space resereved at Joes and all 10 of the end docks at the Docks on 5th. As always, come prepared to raft off. Fuel / Distance: The round trip distance is about 90 miles this should be attainable by all boats. If fuel is needed The Naples City Dock has 89 octane and diesel. Food: I spoke with Dick the General Manager for Joe's Crab Shack and they are excited to have us. We will be ordering from the regular menu. He has asked me to let him know aprrox. how many of will be attending a few days before so please let me know. Communication: Interboat communication to be on VHF channel 72. My cell number is 239-253-4773. Anyone dropping out after the start should let me know so we do not spend time either waiting or looking for you. Leave a voicemail message if no answer. After Lunch: By 2:00 to 2:30 PM latest we need to be on our way. We can, if time permits, head over to Keywaddin by way of the intracostal for some beach time. From there everyone can head home as their schedule dictates. Tide Information: High tide for Naples Bay will be 8:16 AM and Low tide will be 3:34 PM Waypoints: Marco Island: N 25 58 38; W 81 46 25 Gordon Pass [ Naples] N 26 05 50; W 81 48 67 Sanibel Bridge N 26 29 00; W 82 00 88 Weather/ Sea Conditions: NOAA forecast for Saturday 10/20 as of 10/15 SOUTH WINDS 5 TO 10 KNOTS. SEAS 2 FEET OR LESS. BAY AND INLAND WATERS A LIGHT CHOP. Safety: ”Each Captain is required to operate his vessel in a safe manner and is responsible for his / her crew and their safety. Familiarize yourself with BSAFE [ Boating Safety Association for Events ]. Visit www.boatingsafe.org When running in the intercoastal be aware that this can be a high traffic area and we ask that other boats be given a wide berth and that the rules of the road be paid attention to. We have an opportunity here to show that offshore boaters can go out and have a fun day on the water and be respectful of others and try and improve our sometimes tarnished image. This should be one of the goals of FMO. ” as quoted from our fearless leader Bob Barnhart John cell - 239 253-4773 e mail [email protected] RSVP: Although there is no requirement for an RSVP and we will have you up to the last minute, if you know you'll be attending help me out be posting or calling early. It will help, Thanks |
Great job of putting this together, John. :D
Of coarse I will be there and looking forward to it. I will be driving 1200 miles just to do this run!! Well, lets just say I'm timing the delivery of my car to Marco for the season to coincide with this run. I expect I will have 5 or 6 on board. Some of our FMO's that are between boats will be joining me.:D Bob |
Count me in John. Are we using Marco pass and going up the intercoastal or Gordan's Pass for a more direct route?
Thanks, Jack |

Thanks, Jack Looking forward to seeing you. We are using capri pass to give the run a little more distance also judging from a lot of the posts out there in the past it seemed like there are some of our Ft Myers and Cape Coral friends that had not been that way. John |
Sounds good!

Hey guys,
Looks like I picked the wrong weekend to go to Key West to get married. It would probably lessen my future participation in fun runs (or anything else for that matter) if I even suggested it! As long as I'm in Key West Saturday, whether I take the ferry or not, what's the difference? Surely, she'll understand if I show up a little later, right????? Tom :hitfan: |
