Default Info / Roll Call for FMO / DoubleR Performance New Years Day fun run to Marco Island

Attending Captains should read this information carefully to avoid any confusion.

Our 9th annual Holiday season fun run sponsored by DoubleR Performance will be going to Marco Island, and held on Thursday Jan 1, 2015. We will start from the south side of the Sanibel Bridge at 11:30 AM. Lunch will be at C.J’s on the Bay in the Esplanade complex, Marco Island. We will monitor the weather closely and if any changes are necessary we will get the information out ASAP. Just one more important reason to register with us if you are planning on coming.

If you are able to join us, post up here on our event thread or let me know by phone: 239-776-0481, or e mail: [email protected] by 3 PM on Tuesday Dec. 30th.* Both the dockmaster and the restaurant must know in advance how many are coming to prepare for our arrival.

Since this run has been designated as a fund raising event to help fund our FMO student scholarship program, we are asking that each participating boat donate a minimum flat rate of $100.00 towards this cause. The preferred method of payment if you have a PayPal account is to go to our website at www.ftmyersoffshore.com and click on “ Events “ then scroll to Event # 4, New Years Day fun run. You will see the PayPal “ Add to Cart “ button for that particular event. Alternatively we can take cash or a check made out to FMO at the lunch stop.

Membership renewal: If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2015, now would be a good time to do so as the end of the year is approaching fast. Please go to our website at www.ftmyersoffshore.com and complete the online form or download and mail it in or present at the “membership desk” we will have set up at C.J’s. Please note that to participate in FMO events you must be a club member and your boat must be insured. If your insurance has recently renewed, please provide your current info to FMO board member Eric Belisle [email protected] who keeps track of members insurance information.

Route: From the Sanibel Bridge we will start behind Bob’s 380 Statement CC which will act as the pace boat. PLEASE DO NOT PASS THE PACE BOAT UNTIL WE REACH THE BONITA BEACH WATER TOWER AND THE FLAG IS LOWERED. The reason for this is to keep the boats together so Jay can get as many boats photographed from the helicopter as possible. If everyone takes off on their own at the start too many boats are not going to get their picture taken. Once the flag drops at Bonita everyone can then set their own comfortable speed. We will run a coastal coarse that will take us past Bonita Beach, Naples and on down to Big Marco Pass and into the Marco River. A half mile into the Marco River, turn right into the first canal (before Snook Inn) making our way in the marked channel to C.J.s on the Bay at the Esplanade Marina.*

Dockage: The public dockage at The Esplanade is located along the seawall. The dock master will do his best to keep as much dockage open for us as possible but he cannot turn the public away. Some rafting will likely be required so please have lines and fenders ready on arrival. The slips are privately owned, so unless directed into a slip by the dock master, they should be avoided. Don't be afraid to show your appreciation to the dock master and slip him a few dollars as I’m sure we will have him scrambling.

Fuel / Distance: The distance from the Sanibel Bridge to Marco Island is about 45 miles each way. All boats are urged to leave with full fuel, particularly if you use high octane fuel that is hard to get. 90 octane ethanol free fuel is available at club sponsor Pelican Pier Marina in the Marco River, just beyond the Snook Inn on the right side.*

Pictures: Club photographer Jay Nichols (OSO Jayboat) will be aboard the Jet Ranger helicopter capturing as many running pictures of your boats as possible.
As mentioned previously do not pass the pace boat until we get to the Bonita Beach water tower and the pace boat lowers the flag. In the days following the event, Jay will post as many pictures on OSO as he can and I will eventually send out links to where they can be found.
At this time ( Dec 20th ) we have a passenger seat available in the Jet Ranger helicopter and you can enjoy a one hour ride for $ 300.00. If you are interested in purchasing this seat please let me know. That in itself will not cover the cost of the heli so Jay has offered that anyone donating $ 50 - $ 100 towards the helicopter will get a free 16” X 24” print of their boat. That payment will be to FMO and can be done on the website www.ftmyersoffshore.com under the “Donation” button or at the lunch stop.* *

Food: C.J’s will be serving us with a buffet style lunch and each participant will be responsible to C.J’s for their meal / drinks. The all inclusive cost is $ 25.00 which includes the lunch buffet, water / soft drink, tax & gratuity. Kids are half price. Tickets will be given out as you pay for lunch, prior to going though the food line.

50 / 50 draw: At lunch we will be selling 50 / 50 raffle tickets. Draw proceeds will go into the FMO student scholarship fund. Please support your Club, and the good work we are doing.FMO has now raised and distributed over $ 125,000.00 to dozens of area students worthy of our assistance.

FMO clothing line: We will have available for purchase FMO hats, visors, ladies v & scoop neck T’s, ladies tank tops, mens polo shirts as well as T’s in both long and short sleeve. Any profit generated by the sale of club clothing goes towards FMO’s student scholarship fund.*

Communication: Inter boat communication to be on VHF channel 72. My cell is 239-776-0481. Anyone dropping out after the start should let me know so we do not spend time waiting or looking for you. Leave a voice mail if no answer.

Over a half dozen registered overnight. I will start a list of attending boats when I'm back from the Keys tomorrow late afternoon. Also if you mentioned you are coming on Facebook, please confirm here or in a text or e mail to me. I find Facebook very unreliable to know who is really coming. Can you imagine that ? LOL

Looks like we are headed into a nice stretch of weather well into next week now that this front has moved through. Looks great for our New Years Day run.
