Default Roll Call / Info for FMO fun run to Laishley’s Crab House, Punta Gorda Sat. Mar. 7/15

Event organizer: Eric Belisle

Attending Captains should read this information carefully to minimize any confusion.

While we have had Laishley’s http://www.laishleycrabhouse.com/index.html on our schedule in years past for various reasons we have never made it there with our group. So this is the year we will finally get to this premier location and enjoy a great venue and run up the length of Charlotte Harbor to Punta Gorda. This run is free of charge to all paid up club members.

If you are planning on attending this event, please let me know by 3 PM Thursday, March 5th as the restaurant must order our food and plan for our arrival in advance. You may e mail me, or post up here on our event thread on OSO. I will maintain the usual Captain / boat list on OSO. We do not find a Facebook posting to be reliable indicator of who is actually coming. LOL

If your boat is down for service or repair and you feel like driving to Laishley’s and joining us for lunch, club members are most welcome to do so. Please be sure to let us know, so sufficient food can be arranged for.

Route:

Our starting point will once again be the south side of the Sanibel Bridge. Boats should assemble around 10:45 am and we will leave by 11:00 AM sharp.

While I expect the main group will head up the ICW, any boats wanting to run offshore if conditions are good are welcome to do so. When we go up the ICW there is a marked channel on the backside (east side) of Useppa Island (between Useppa and Pine Island) that will take you out into Charlotte Harbor and save several miles off the ICW route that runs up to Boca Grande Pass. Just make sure you stay within the marked channel and you will be fine. If unsure, then just fall in behind me. Once in Charlotte Harbor we will run up the center, picking up the marked channel before passing under the first bridge. From there we will make our way to Laishley’s dock’s.

Completion of this and all FMO events is on arrival at our lunch stop.

We will have our 50 / 50 draw about 2:15 ish and then depart at our leisure. Some of the group may stop and hang out at the beach at Cayo Costa or alternatively go to a favorite waterfront restaurant for a while before heading home.

When heading back to your home port or points south, the Matlacha Channel has high tide is at 3:28 PM should anyone want to return that way. If you are not familiar with that route we recommend you follow someone with knowledge of that interesting shortcut home.

Membership information:

All vessels participating in FMO events are required to carry insurance and have a club membership. Memberships are on a calendar year basis and if you have not yet renewed your membership for 2015, or are new and wanting to join the club, you may do so online. Go to www.ftmyersoffshore.com and click on “Membership”. You may pay for your membership online. You may also renew at any event during the lunch stop. There is no change in membership dues with Boaters Memberships starting at just $ 60.00. People tell us all the time what a great thing FMO has going on and it can only continue with your ongoing support for the club. A current copy of your vessel insurance information should be e mailed to FMO club President Eric Belisle [email protected] who is tracking that on behalf of the club or alternatively to me at the address below.

Fuel / Distance:

From the Sanibel Bridge to Burnt Store and back to the start via ICW should be about 100 miles maximum with an offshore route being an additional 10 miles and a return through Matlacha about 10 miles less. 90 octane non ethanol fuel is available at Fisherman’s Village Marina in Punta Gorda just before the bridge. Outer marker is red # 2, just follow the marked channel into marina. 93 octane is very difficult to find these days so always a good idea to leave with a full tank if you use high octane fuel.

Food:

Laishley’s will be serving us a buffet lunch at a cost of $ 25.00 including tax and gratuity payable directly to the restaurant. We will negotiate a lower price for children under 12. The buffet will consist of Chicken Marsala, Beef Kabobs, Baked Lasagna, Rice, House Salad and rolls as well as Ice Tea, Soda and Coffee.

Communication:

Inter boat communication to be on VHF channel 72. My cell number is 239-776-0481. Anyone dropping out after the start should let me know so we do not spend time either waiting or looking for you. Leave a voicemail if no answer.

Pictures:

Club photographer Jay Nichols (OSO Jayboat) will be aboard Team PREDATOR capturing as many pictures as possible during the course of the day. Please be sure to come alongside for your picture, and no need to get too close with Jay’s lens capabilities. Later, Jay will post as many pictures on our OSO event thread as he can and I will eventually send out links to where they can be found.

Tide Information:

Note the low morning tide. If attending you may want to make sure you can get your boat off the lift. Also use care to stay in the marked ICW channel during the run.

To be posted on the OSO event thread, 5 days prior to the run and updated daily should there be any change referencing The Weather Channel and NOAA.

Safety:

Each boat Captain is required to operate his vessel in a safe manner and is responsible for his / her crew and their safety.
When running in the Intra Coastal Waterway ( ICW ) please be aware that this can be a high traffic area and we ask that other boats be given a wide berth and that the rules of the waterway be adhered to.

Next FMO event:

Our next event scheduled for Saturday March 21st, will likely be to a new destination, Venetian Village in Naples instead of to Pincher’s Crab Shack. Arrangements will be completed soon and we will advise club members once final arrangements are complete.

Hello...first post here.

John O has said you people are a good group (don't know if he was kidding or not).

I recently acquired a 38 Fountain CC (with trip 300 Verado) and am interested in joining and running with you guys - my concern is I won't be able to keep up with the go fast boats. Typically what would the speeds be of the 'slower' boats?

tks

Earl
