Dockage at the Esplanade, Marco Island
As the club continues to grow it becomes a challenge for us to get 30+ boats into any marina including the Esplanade at Marco. With the marina now at full capacity and a record number of participants in this years run, we need to take some extra steps and everyone’s cooperation to accommodate all participants.
Attached you will find the marina layout. There are only a few slips available and they have been pre assigned by the dockmaster for various reasons. Do NOT go into any open slip unless directed to do so by the dockmaster as they are all privately owned and will just cause problems. The public dockage available to us is along the shoreline, longside docks ( E 101 to E 108 on the attached dock plan outlined in black ). In years past we have rafted as many as 3 deep in the largest section E 105 to 108. It is important that the first boats in, go all the way forward and leave no wasted space. The docks are floating so no need to leave more space between the boats than necessary. Our best guess is that we will not get more than 30 boats into the marina. Here is the plan for the rest of the boats. Bob in his 50' Nor Tech is going to drop anchor in the quiet bay just outside the marina and is inviting 5 or more boats to raft off each side of him. Ideally center consoles on one side and go fast on the other. If necessary we can start another raft. We will have a couple other boats in the raft drop anchor as well for added security. If you are volunteering for the raft, just stand off outside the marina until Bob gets his anchor set while you get your lines and fenders ready. Raymond has offered to use the Donzi CC as a shuttle boat to take people from their rafted boats to the docks. Shortly after the 50/ 50 draw, usually about 2:30 - 2:45 PM the shuttle will start bringing people back to the boats and by 3 PM everyone can be on their way. We not sure what will happen with next years event as the club is now outgrowing the capacity of most west coast marinas to handle our numbers. Hopefully with everyones cooperation it will all work out.
The start and helicopter
Eric will be flying the yellow flag in his MTI and is the pace boat. NO ONE is to pass the pace boat for the first 10 miles until we reach the Bonita Beach water tower. The pace boat will run 50 - 55 MPH and this will give Jay in the helicopter the chance to photo shoot as many boats as he possibly can before everyone takes off. The helicopter cannot possibly chase 40 + boats all over the Gulf for the 40 mile distance to Marco and hope to catch everyone so we need the co operation of all on this. Last year some took off early and then most followed. When asked the reason we were told “ well I did not want another picture of my boat ”. Lets all do the right thing for the group at large and follow the pace boat till the flag is lowered please. There will still be 30 miles of open water to run your boat down to Marco and all the way home at your pace.
If you have not already please go to our website www.ftmyersoffshore.com and pay your event fee with a credit card. This will make it much easier and enjoyable for me at the event
Thank you Bob for putting all this together

I went over to see the Esplande dockmaster's this morning and found them helpful as usual. The attached pictures are of the longside E docks that will be available to us. The dockmaster's will do their best to keep as much of the public dockage open as they can. They have agreed to make a portion of a T dock available to us for some of the smaller boats to raft which will help further. Paul Perzyk in his 32' Renegade has been assigned B 108 behind the white Magnum and once he is secured to the dock other boats of 36 ft or less are welcome to raft off of him out towards the bay. It is worth my mentioning that they are making a special effort to fit us all in and Captain's are urged to show the dockmaster's their appreciation.
Looking forward to another great FMO event tomorrow.
Bob and Eric
