Default Info for FMO fun run to Venetian Village, Naples - Sat. Dec. 10 /16

Event Organized by Bob Barnhart

Attending Captains should read this information carefully to avoid any confusion.

General Information: This will be the clubs first ever fun run to Venetian Village. The reason we have not gone in the past is there is no single restaurant that can handle the size of our group in season and also very limited public dockage. For this first run we are going to put a cap of 20 boats on the event. Even at that, dockage will be tight with some rafting and we will be eating in various restaurants as described in the food section below. If there is sufficient interest then we will make a second run at a future date for those that do not get in on this one. If you are attending it is very important to read the information below particularly as it pertains to dockage and food. The run is free of charge to paid up FMO members.

Registration: The only accepted way to register for this run is by e mail to Bob at [email protected] or Eric at [email protected] Saying you are coming on social media such as Facebook or OSO does not get you registered. This is the only way we can control the number of entries. Once we reach 20 registrants we will take 5 standbys as fill ins should anyone drop out. The event will then be closed to further registration and we will advise members by e mail and social media.

Start time: 10:30 AM from the our usual place on the south side of the Sanibel Bridge. We are leaving a half hour early from our normal time to secure seating in the restaurants before the usual noon lunch crowd.

Departure time from Venetian Village to be at your leisure.

Membership renewal: If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2017, now would be a good time to do so as the end of the year is approaching fast. Please go to our website at www.ftmyersoffshore.com and complete the online form or download and mail it in. Please note that to participate in FMO events you must be a club member and your boat must be insured. If your insurance has recently renewed or if you have a different boat please provide your current info to FMO board member Bill Lemanske at [email protected] Bill keeps track of members insurance information on behalf of the club.

Route: From the Sanibel Bridge we will start behind Eric Belisle’s MTI which will act as the pace boat. We will run a coastal course that will take us past Bonita Beach and just a mile past the most southerly Naples beachfront high rise building you will come to Doctor’s Pass. If you come to the Naples Pier or Gordon Pass you have gone too far south. The coordinates for Doctor’s Pass are 26/10/40 N; 81/49/00 W. Just inside Doctor’s Pass, turn left keeping red on your right, and idle 1.4 miles north under the first bridge, up the length of the bay and you will see the dockage on your left just before Venetian Village.

Dockage: One of the attachments shows a Google Earth pic of the docking area. While some of the docks are posted as private, I have been taking small groups of up to 6 boats here with no problem for the last several years. Some of the docks are in rough shape so use your fenders to protect your boat where possible. The owners are mostly absentee condo owners few of which actually own a boat and are rarely around. I will keep my fingers crossed that our group does not attract unwanted attention and we will have lunch and be gone before anyone notices. LOL. I will tie up at the end of the T dock and we can raft a half dozen boats off of me. If you are on a time constraint try not to get caught in the middle of the raft or have arrangements made with neighboring Captains to get out. On the Google Earth map I have identified an area to the south we will call "overflow dockage". These docks are also mostly open however I have never had occasion to use them.

Fuel / Distance: The distance from the Sanibel Bridge to the entrance of Doctor’s Pass is 25 miles. All boats are urged to leave with sufficient fuel, particularly if you use high octane fuel that is hard to get. If you need fuel see me and I can direct you to the nearest fuel dock.

Food: There are 5 or so restaurants in the Venetian Village complex ( see listed below or click the link ) http://www.venetianvillage.com/restaurants/ and none of them are quite able to handle a group our size. MiraMare has agreed to take 50 of our group. I understand their pizza is delicious. They have a very large corner outdoor patio with distinctive yellow umbrellas overlooking the bay. http://www.venetianvillage.com/miramare/

My recommendation is that if MiraMare cannot accommodate the entire group, the rest can likely be accommodated at my favorite, the upper deck of Bayside Seafood & Grill. The food is great but capacity is limited to perhaps 25 or so. Their patio area also overlooks the bay. http://www.venetianvillage.com/bayside/

MiraMare and Bayside are very close together as shown on the Village Shops link.

Also note that the complex is on both sides of Park Shore Drive. There is a connecting pedestrian walkway under the road.

Additional restaurants if needed:

Fish - http://www.venetianvillage.com/fish/

The Village Pub - http://www.venetianvillage.com/the-village-pub/

Shopping: while most of the shops are very high end, take the time after lunch to browse the various shops displaying a wide variety of men’s and women’s clothing and unique merchandise. Here is a link to the list of shops: http://www.venetianvillage.com/shopping/

Communication: Inter boat communication to be on VHF channel 72. Bob cell is 239-776-0481 and Eric’s cell is 239-849-6533. Anyone dropping out after the start should let one of us know so we do not spend time waiting or looking for you. Leave a voice mail if no answer.

After reviewing the weekend weather forecast and consultation with Eric we have decided to cancel the boating aspect of the fun run to Venetian Village in Naples, however any club members interested in getting together with fellow FMO’s for lunch as planned are welcome to drive there. Please try and arrive at MiraMare restaurant in the Village by noon as things get busy after that and we could lose our designated seating area. I understand several members are riding their bikes to VV to join us and for information on the bike ride please contact Drew Phyfe. The address for The Village on Venetian Bay is 4236 Gulf Shore Blvd N; Naples, FL 34103. Please feel free to contact me if you require additional information. [email protected] or 239-776-0481
