Info / Roll Call for FMO / Comrie Cancer Foundation Holiday Season fun run to Marco Island - Friday Dec 30/16

Event Organized by Bob Barnhart

Attending Captains should read this information carefully to avoid any confusion.

Preamble: This is our 11th annual Holiday Season fun run. The fun run will once again be going to Marco Island, and held on Friday Dec. 30th, 2016. There will be 2 groups with the cats starting at 10:30 AM and the Vee bottoms starting at 10:45 AM. As usual we will start the run from the south side of the Sanibel Bridge. (It is very important that Captains read the starting procedure below) Lunch will be at C.J’s on the Bay in the Esplanade complex, Marco Island. We will monitor the weather closely and if any changes are necessary we will get the information out ASAP. Just one more important reason to register with us by the deadline if you are planning on coming.

If you are able to join us, Captains should post up on our Facebook event page, OSO event thread or preferably let Eric or Bob know (contact info can be found below) by 3 PM on Wednesday Dec. 28th. Both the dockmaster and the restaurant must know in advance how many are coming to prepare for our arrival. Last year far too many signed up at the last minute and C.J’s ran low on their buffet. Lets avoid that this year by confirming your attendance by the deadline, please.

Since this run has been designated as a fund raising event to help fund our FMO student scholarship program, we are asking that each participating boat donate a minimum flat rate of $130.00 towards this cause. The preferred method of payment is to go to our website at www.ftmyersoffshore.com and click on “ Events “ then scroll to Event # 4. You will see the “Add to Cart “ button for that particular event. Alternatively we can take cash or a check made out to FMO at the lunch stop.

FMO members Doug and Carolyn Comrie have been extremely generous to our club. We would like to show our appreciation and help them promote another foundation that is very important to them. The Comrie Cancer Foundation is holding its annual Mardi Bras & Boxers event on February 11th 2017. The Comrie Cancer Foundation was set up to help those in need of funds during the tough trials and tribulations of fighting cancer. Club members Eric and Keri Belisle will attend the event. The event will have a live and silent auction which has a lot of great items including a ride with Eric and Keri on their MTI. If you would like to attend the event or donate please contact Event Direct Scott Sekerak at 216-408-0078, [email protected], www.mardibrasandbosers.org Scott will also be at the CJ’s lunch if you would like to support the event or have any questions. You can also contact FMO member Eric Belisle

Membership renewal: If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2017, now would be a good time to do so as the end of the year is approaching fast. Please go to our website at www.ftmyersoffshore.com and complete the online form ( preferred method ) or download the form and mail it in or present at the “membership desk” we will have set up at C.J’s. Please note that to participate in FMO events you must be a club member and your boat must be insured. If your insurance has recently renewed or if you have changed boats or insurance company, please provide your current info to FMO board member Bill Lemanske at [email protected] Bill keeps track of members insurance information on behalf of the club.

Starting procedure: Captain’s please read carefully. From the Sanibel Bridge, the first of two groups will start behind Eric’s Belisle’s MTI which will act as the pace boat. The cats only, led by Eric will start at 10:30 AM with all other boats holding their position at the Sanibel Bridge. PLEASE DO NOT PASS Eric’s PACE BOAT UNTIL THE GROUP REACHES THE BONITA BEACH WATER TOWER AND THE FLAG IS LOWERED. At that point the helicopter will return to the Sanibel Bridge for the start of the second group. The second group consisting of all the V hulls including centre consoles will start at 10:45 AM led by Bob in his 50’ Nor Tech Team PREDATOR. Once again, DO NOT PASS Bob’s PACE BOAT UNTIL WE REACH THE BONITA BEACH WATER TOWER AND THE FLAG IS LOWERED. The reason for this is to keep the boats together so Jay and Pete can get as many boats photographed and filmed from the helicopter as possible. If everyone takes off on their own after the start, too many boats are not going to get their picture taken. Once the flag drops at Bonita everyone can then set their own comfortable speed. There will still be 30 miles of open water for the run to Marco from there.

We still have one seat available in the helicopter for purchase. If anyone is interest in purchasing the seat please contact Bob or Eric.

Route: We will run a coastal course that will take us past Bonita Beach, past Naples and on down to Big Marco Pass and into the Marco River. A half mile into the Marco River, turn right into the first canal (before Snook Inn) making our way in the marked channel to C.J.s on the Bay at the Esplanade Marina.

Dockage: ( See attached marina plan ) The public dockage at The Esplanade is located along the seawall. The dock master will do his best to keep as much dockage open for us as possible but he cannot turn the public away. Some rafting will be required so please have lines and fenders ready on arrival. The slips are privately owned, so unless directed into a slip by the dock master, they should be avoided. It’s always a good idea to show your appreciation to the dock master and slip him a few dollars as I’m sure we will have him scrambling.

Fuel / Distance: The distance from the Sanibel Bridge to the Esplanade Marina at Marco Island is about 45 miles each way. All boats are urged to leave with full fuel, particularly if you use high octane fuel that is hard to get. 90 octane ethanol free fuel is available at club sponsor Pelican Pier Marina in the Marco River, just beyond the Snook Inn on the right side.

Pictures / Video: Club photographer Jay Nichols (OSO Jayboat) (camera) and Pete Boden (video) will be aboard the Jet Ranger helicopter capturing running pictures and video of your boats. In order to shoot as many boats as possible, ALL boats must remain behind the pace boat until we get to the Bonita Beach water tower and the pace boat for your group lowers the flag even if your picture has been taken and even if you do not want a picture. The reason is, if boats start taking off from the group others start to follow and the photo shoot is spoiled. Once boats get spread out all over the Gulf too much time is lost chasing them down. This will ensure most boats get pictured but with a big fleet some will inevitably get missed. Your best chance for a great picture and to be included in the video is to stay with the pack.

In the days following the event, Jay and Pete will post their pictures & video on social media such as Facebook and OSO. You will have the opportunity to purchase pictures at a discount in the days following the run.

Food: C.J’s will be serving us with a buffet style lunch and each participant will be responsible to C.J’s for their meal / drinks. The all inclusive cost is $ 25.00 which includes the lunch buffet, water / soft drink, tax & gratuity. Kids are half price. Wrist bands will be given out as you pay for lunch prior to going though the food line.

50 / 50 draw:
At lunch we will be selling 50 / 50 raffle tickets. Draw proceeds will go into the FMO student scholarship fund. You must be present when the draw takes place at around 2:30 PM. Please support your Club, and the good work we are doing.FMO has now raised and distributed over $ 220,000.00 to dozens of area students worthy of our assistance.

FMO clothing line: We will have available for purchase FMO hats, ladies v & scoop neck T’s, ladies tank tops with or without bling, mens polo shirts as well as T’s in both long and short sleeve. Any profit generated by the sale of club clothing goes towards FMO’s student scholarship fund.

Communication: Inter boat communication to be on VHF channel 72. Bob cell is 239-776-0481 and Eric’s cell is 239-849-6533. Anyone dropping out after the start should let one of us know so we do not spend time waiting or looking for you. Leave a voice mail if no answer.

Bob is in of course and will be running the Nor Tech, Team PREDATOR. Looks like the boat is half full with 8 people. LOL Registrants are asked to go to the FMO website at www.ftmyersoffshore.com and pay the $ 130 entry fee online. Go to "Events" and scroll to Event # 4. It's quick and easy and saves those involved in putting the event on a lot of work when we arrive at Marco Island. Your 2017 membership can easily be renewed at the same time. Just click on the websites " Membership" button and go from there.

Eric will be maintaining the list of attending boats that will soon get posted and updated from time to time.

Bob
