Is there such a thing as a state that doesn't have a noise law for bikes and cars??

There are laws here in illinois for vehicles, I dont think for bikes. Bikes have always used the defense that being loud lets other drivers of cars know they are there . ie; blindspots

I beleive these are State laws, not Federal. Every State has is own regulations. Check out this link from CP Performance's Tech Support Page: http://www.cpperformance.com/TechTip...noise_laws.htm

That's already a law in Wisconsin. YOU NEED mufflers AND must still pass a DB reading. No mufflers is a guaranteed ticket if the ticket writer wants.

Viper,
I'm pretty sure that your info is incorrect. For something to become law, there is a very long process. It must first be introduced as legislation, Then it goes to committee. Then it is introduced in Congress (House of Reps.) where it is debated. If it passes in the House it then goes to committee again in the Senate. It must then be debated and voted on in the Senate and then be signed by the Prez. This is a very basic explanation of kind of what happens before a bill becomes a law. I'm sure that all of you have seen the cartoon!!
Are you sure that your info didn't come from a muffler salesman??? See if you can get a bill # for me and I will check it out. The # would be something like H.2642 if it has been introduced into legislation in the House.

I'm just a bill.
Yes, I'm only a bill.
And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill.
Well, it's a long, long journey
To the capital city.
It's a long, long wait
While I'm sitting in committee,
But I know I'll be a law someday
At least I hope and pray that I will,
But today I am still just a bill.

I beleive the bill being proposed has to do with emmissions, not noise. They want to put catylatic converters on boats, just like cars and trucks have. I beleive mercury marine is already working on this issue with the expectation that this bill would pass into law.

Craig, wanna check on that for us???
