Since neither engine is available any longer.......... what is the purpose of this thread?

The only available engine at this time in a 20" configuration is the new 300 Optimax. which is more civilized and powerful than either the 2.5 or the 300x, albeit in a lower RPM range.

If we are talking about used motors, the 300 x has more parts available...... and some are still in extended warranty. In addition based on my own A-B comparison on my Skater. The 300x has more top end....... and contrary to the earlier post.....more acceleration than the 2.5 280. There is a slight increase in stern weight....but that is easily remedied with weight placement in the boat. You will have a much more useable rev range and available torque with the X motor.

Good luck

Take it easy on the old geezer. He didn't have his prune juice this morning and he's a little cranky.

New 300 Optimax's look awesome. I'd get those instead of any of the higher-revving recent 2.5's any day. Sure, they are a bit heavier, but they'll last MUCH longer, plus I'm sure you'll have a warranty as well.
