Boat Carpet
Ok Ok.. I know that this has been posted. But I never paid attention to the answers. So. Where would I get carpeting for my 88 Baja to replace the original ugly brown carpet. Can any carpet be used, such as the type at Home Depot. Or is it a special type? Thanks gang.

Re: Boat Carpet
Call my buddy Mike Gelb at MATWORKS, 770-663-0042. He can help you out and also embroider what ever you want on the carpet.

Re: Boat Carpet
I found the best guy anywhere. He has the most beautiful carpet I have ever seen. You send him a paper template and he does everything. Even the binding he uses is beautiful. I have had 10 different people do my carpets, this guy is the best. I already sent him a couple of people and he's cutting them deals. Mention Gino from Lubejobs referred you. You won't be disappointed!!

Re: Boat Carpet
Got Snapin in mine last year. Did one gorgeous job and 1/3 the price of Formula

Re: Boat Carpet
Snapin wont work.. Unless thats the brand. The problem is that the cockpit on my boat is covered in carpet. On the floor and the sides. And its all glued down. So I am going to have to pull it off and glue in new carpets over the wood.

Re: Boat Carpet
Mike and the guys at MATWORKS digitiz every piece of carpet that they cut so you only have to call to get a replacement after you order from them. They will SEND you the stuff you need to make the pattern for the cockpit carpet and they have all kinds of carpet, glue down, snap in, etc. They are the OEM suppliers to SEARAY, BAJA, SUNSATION, MALIBU,ETC.,ETC.,
Tell them I sent you. Robert |

Re: Boat Carpet
Mike does all of my trucks, cars, boats, etc., plus alot of yachts with the in-lay stuff on their swim platforms at the boat shows. Any boarding mats you want with the boat name or MFGR on them. Possibly a mat to go across the sunpad so everyone does walk across it, what ever you want, they can do it!

Re: Boat Carpet
Rollwithit as you know I also have a old school 24 Baja. I had the glued in carpet up the walls also. I went to the local carpet store and picked out low cut carpet in a very cool purple. My seats are all white, purple carpet on the floor and just for kicks I installed purple neons lights under the sides. The carpet has been in the boat for 2 years and still looks great. And for the price who cares if you have to replace it in a couple of years!

Re: Boat Carpet
Try here: http://www.boatcarpetbuys.com/.
When I was rebuilding the rescue boat, I came across this site. The carpet was good quality, and inexpensive (even the shipping price was good). I went to Home Depot for the adhesive, and put it in myself. I still had some left over, so I made a carpet for under the awning of my motorhome. |
Re: Boat Carpet
Sounds like the last options may be the easy way to go since your carpet is glued down.
If you would like removable carpet you could pull it all out and install a flooring material like Lonseal and then send in a pattern to one of the many carpet suppliers. I use Snap-in-carpet and no it does not have snaps it's heavy enough to stay put! The guy really does do nice work and is a pleasure to deal with. This option may be a pain but it's nice to pull the carpet and wash down the decks or if the carpet gets wet we take it out and hang it dry. I take the carpet to the car wash once a year for a good cleaning and vacuum. |
