3 blade or 4 blade cleavers?

Im currently running 15x 30 3 blade cleavers on my 300x promax sportmasters on a 30 Spectre cat. Do you think going to 4 blade is gonna give me more life on my gears or is it a mis-conception? I was told 4 blade keeps more of the prop in the water rather then 3, thus keeping that out and bite, out and bite scenario to a minamum. Things are getting costly in this hobby so Im trying to do what I can to keep the wife off my back.

I have always heard, more blades are better to keep stress level down.

Four blades will give more transom lift. I had a set on my 25 Warlock cat with O/Bs and did not like them. Great midrange pull and real smooth. Stern was too loose at high speed. Call Jay at Spectre and see what they think.

I just bought a set of four blade 15x30's for my boat. If they are easier on the drives that will be a bonus. Currently spinning 15x32 3 blades.
I let you know in a few weeks how they run.

Id be curious to here her response when you tell her you want to spend $2K on new props to save money :drink:

3 blades will be faster, 4 blades will be kinder to the gear case I think one could cut the diameter down on the four blades to help reduce tail lift. Check with Matt at throttle up,
How fast are you running now?

I can get 108 under perfect conditions, but mostly run in the low to mid 90's in poker runs and weekend running.

Re: 3 blade or 4 blade cleavers?

The 4 blades can be worked to run well on your boat but they won't have the top end your 3 blades do on your Spectre.
It depends how you use the boat. If you are looking for a prop that has better mid range and plane-off there are other choices besides the outboard cleavers. The over hub cleavers are great for top end but really are not the best prop for anything else.

Re: 3 blade or 4 blade cleavers?

I have 4 blade merc lab cleavers 14.5 x 30 on twin 2004 300x's on a restored 1988 27 Eliminator. Before I had 2.5 efi offshores with 3 blade same size. I had way more bow lift with the 3 blades than I do with the 4 blades. I feel there will be more speed with the 3 blades on the 300x's and am waiting on a pair of 3 blade 14.5 x 30 3 blade merc cleavers. I might also try et lightings. I was told 3 blades should be faster, even though I have great hole shot and serviceability with the 4 blades. Any thoughts on my choices.

The Eliminator is a heavier boat than the Spectre. Those four blades might be perfect for you. I did forget to say the top speed was not there with my four blades. Every Spectre, Motion and Skater with O/B's seem to run three blade cleavers. I have the best luck with Merc Labs. I would not spend the money untill I spoke with somebody with your exact setup first. Call Spectre. Don't let this board guess your setup.
