2 brand new batteries I guess one of them could be bad

Get a voltmeter on that stuff and measure it!!!

You Have a bad ground at the battery or on of the blocks Question do you have two alternators or one? if 1 and you have a bad ground the second engine would die.. same if you had a loose positive wire (just check all connections and if there clean)

Do you have a grounding strap between the two blocks? My '89 311 had a heavy guage ground strap between the two.

That is what was wrong with my 302. Put new grounds on and new batteries and it started faster then ever before.

Could be fuel flow too. I had a bad fuel pump and when I had one engine running the other would start, but not crank past 1200RPM'S or it would just die. Check the fuel filters too...just in case all this battery stuff doesn't solve the problem.
