You CAN"T register a documented vessel. PERIOD. One or the other.

That is not correct. Florida requires a registration on documented vessels. No FL #'s but a registration sticker gets displayed on the port side.

Okay,

We go over this way too many times. Your boat must be state registered or federally documented. If you chose or are required by your lender to document your boat depending upon which state you claim to use as principal use you must also follow the state law. The state of Florida will require you register your boat even if documented. As a Documented boat in the state of Florida as well as many other states you do not display the vessel number on the bow. You must remove any previous registration numbers and follow the documentation marking requirements.

This is very simple. You document your boat first, then you register with the state. You will note on your registration the state uses the official number or a close variation of it. You will then affix a validation sticker to the port side of the vessel.

All of these vessel numbering requirements are clearly noted in 33 CFR PART 173

I just purchased a boat from another state and brought it to Florida. Yes the boat is documented as required by the lender. The documentation process has not been completed so I do not have the assigned documentation number yet. The State of Florida has a different process for documented vessels so it took a while at the tag office as they have to put quite a bit of info off of the documentation application. They provide you with a registration receipt and sticker to put on the port side and only on documented boats are you allowed to put the sticker on the windshield

I have people for that my friend. lots of people. And, anyway, most customers bend the rules to help with sales tax, etc.
