Donzi 38ZR vs. Cigarette 36 Gladiator

1 Attachment(s)
I have always wondered which boat would win in a drag race the Donzi or the Cig...

Same identical set up, 525hp's, staggered engine configuration, Bravo ZR's.

These are definitely two outstanding boats, with race heritages. Which one would be faster in flat water, mild chop, and the rough stuff????

I was thinking the Donzi would win...

I think my vote would have to go to the Cigarette Gladiator. The Donzi is a much bigger boat than the Gladiator and I think that would account for less top end

I would agree that for pure speed and acceleration, the cig probably has an advantage, but the weight and length probably will pay off for the donzi in rougher stuff....

not only is the donzi 2 feet longer but it ways a hell of a lot more, more weight=less top end. in a head to head drag the cigarette would definitely pull away. i also bet the cig would do better in the mild chop and maybe even the rough stuff, cigs really arent meant for perfectly glassy water.

my .02

Great comparision, I would hope the cig would win, but if you got them both at the same weight and same mill that would be a great race.

Fun stuff

The Zr isn't that much bigger. It's not nearly as big as a Zx. Tough choice that I'd love to have to make. :D

gettin those boats to the same weight would include stuffing the entire engine bay in the gladiator with dumbells, lol.......
same mill. stock all around .... cig will pull away

Being we have Donzis and a Gladiator I had the pleasure of driving both, They are both great machines.
The Gladiator is lighter 8ft beam and fast 525s Staggered runs 94mph.. a little rough in the big stuff
The Donzi ZR heavier boat 8ft6 beam 525s runs 90-92 mph but get this boat in rough water and she will run true without an ass beating. :D

The Gladiator is 36' 11" and 8000# but only an 8' beam.
How does that compare to the Donzi?

Cigs are built to run in some pretty good chop.

Well, to be perfectly honest with you. I liked the Donzi better too. It was more comfortable and roomy. I could barely squeeze my fat a$$ into the rear seats of the gladiator...and I'm not THAT big  :drink:

But I do think the cig is faster....

there's another political answer huh!? :drink: :drink:

Haha, Thanks for the input guys. I think you are all right and the gladiator would win in most conditions, but I still think the Donzi would take the gladiator in the ruff stuff. Does any one have any idea what the Donzi weighs in at?

Rollin' in the rough is all about the bow and the Cig bow will definately take bigger water better (wow say that three times) The Donzi bow doesn't have the volume and seems kinda' flat .. like it would slap the water. Also, if things were to get ugly, I want to be tossed from the boat ... I get the feeling when sitting, I would be leaving my legs in the Donzi

Boatless ... well, not exactly boatless ... I do have a 1968 Chrysler New Yorker Coupe :evilb:

The compition seemed to struggle but, the H&H Speed & Marine Cig Flew the whole Way ..... Awsome race ,,,,,,,, Spiderman took second, with Donzi rounding out 3rd ,,,,,,,,, One of the few 3rd's for Donzi that year though ,,,,,,,
