I have seen a Donzi 18 used as a tender on a super yacht, and the Donzi was better looking. Sweet boats!

Looks like my old thread was brought back to life.

Sutphil, that is a nice looking ride! What kind of speeds are you getting?

A ZL1 is NOT 110 lbs w heads, it is the bare block wt.
An aluminum BBC block fully built w AL. heads, waterpump, etc weighs about the same as a stock SBC and can make HUGE power, but the first issue is, if you run in salt water it may not be a good thing and in a small boat there may be fittment issues, and the Ram Air ZL1 crate motor is still only rated at 502 hp (I don't even think GMPP makes it anymore). It still cost $20k and for that money I would build a exotic, 820 hp, AL Block and heads crate motor

I could build a Merlin or Donovan or Rodeck AL block, adds about $3k to the price of the race package crate motor, but then , if getting that exotic, we could also go w a very light wt crank, rods, pistons, and fly wheel. still around $20,000 for the exotic, lt wt. stuff at 820 HP.

Let me add, that would be off the coolness chart.
a 420 hp, 496 ci Merc at less then 1 hp per cubic inch would actually be lame as hell, but a AL Merlin block built to 725 or 825 HP NA would be really cool, run w the Arne surface drive, and spin it up to 8K, (people forget that big blocks Like to spin), specify compression for adding forced induction and the power is in the 1400 hp range for under $25k.

It's a stock package that runs just over 70 on the Merc speedo with a 25 Mirage. I've got a GPS now so I will check it next time it's out. I've also got some SM Exhaust to add. I wonder if that will account for more speed?

Damn, and here I was thinking that a stock 420 hp 496 with some SM manifolds and risers would do!
