License Plate Thief !!!

I checked on my trailer today. I keep it in the yard of the marina where my boat is racked. Some low-life stole my plate !!! I know there's not much chance, but if anyone spots Michigan plate B092287 it's mine. Stolen from Beacon Cove Marina in Harrison Township, MI.

It's happened to me before. Now I keep the tags on with zippy ties, and take them off when I'm not using the boat. The bad thing is not only does the State of Florida not care it was stolen, they charge you to replace it.

Happened to me while in FT Lauderdale, Florida. That B*&**D even took my custom plate frame! (I am probably the only moron that puts a custom frame on a boat trailer plate! Oh well. Do make sure you report it though! I changed over to quick on and off thumb screws and put on only when traveling long distances.
Good luck.

So far I've had two "factory" trailer light couplers stolen, one at the ramp and one at the gas station (now keep them locked in the map pocket of my truck at ALL times except when I'm actually underway) and once someone stole the nuts/bolts off my license plate leaving the license place on the fender. That was also at the ramp.

There are people out there who would steal the shoes off your feet.

I figured these new "permanent" would start becoming popular! How many times do you have the opportunity to get your trailer-plate run by police? I wonder if you can call it in as stolen?

wantsa311, out of curiosity did you get a new plate yet or check into it? I'm just wondering if they charge you $10 for a replacement or the $75/$200 for a new one?

I remember when this happened to you the last time....FYI, I cut the trailer plug off and hard wired a 7 way round right to the trailer wires. Now it's always there and if someone steals that they won't be able to use it anyway.

Your real vulnerable if the tag just got renewed for the year. They know they have 12 months available before they need to look again. I think they make a nut and screw kit with an adapter to put on and off.

can you wire a trailer to get a shock when its plugged in to the suv while parked at the ramp

At $200 for a trailer plate I'm not surprise they are being ripped off. Now the wart-faced cow in Lansing is considering a renewal fee for those "permanent" plates we all had to buy. Remember, she said they were permanent, but didn't say they were only going to be paid for just once.

That's why I'm wondering what it costs to replace, the regular fee for the permanent plate or just a replacement fee of $10.

Fortunately for me when I bought my boat the trailer registration didn't have the weight listed so I had to estimate it somewhere under 2500 lbs.

Re: License Plate Thief !!!

When the renewal sticker was stolen off our plate we approached the DMV about replacing them. They told us that we had to pay the full renewal amount. Screw that! We got stopped a couple of months later for expired tags the cops tried to argue with us that there is no fee for a stolen sticker. They got a call and left before giving us a ticket. We went back to the DMV and now there was no charge for a replacement sticker.

I haven't checked into it yet. I called the sheriff to report it stolen so I'm clear in case the low-life who stole it gets a ticket. I want to move the boat this weekend so I'll have to pick up a plate on Friday. I'll let you know what it costs.

check your launch ramp
