Place to launch in Grand Haven

I'm looking for a place to launch in Grand Haven MI where I could leave my truck/trailer for 6 days while I go to Traverse area.

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

You can launch at the city ramp on the Grand River, your truck and trailer should be fine there. That where I launch my 41, its located just off the hy-way. Exit just before the bridge the road will take you under the hyway and at the stop sign turn right and a quater mile down the ramps drive way is another right. Steve

Just on the north side of Grand Haven is a large set of beautiful public docks. Heading north if you cross the river you have gone too far. They are tricky to find but follow the boat ramp signs and be patient. The parking lot is huge.

E-Mail BOATME. Mark will be able to give you exacting directions. My avatar was taken at the ramp in Grand Haven.

These both sound like the same place. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

Been launching and boating in Grand Haven most of my life. I would NOT leave my truck and trailer parked at the Municipal boat ramp for 6 days. A) I don't beleive it's allowed, and B) I value my vehicles too much to leave them anywhere out in the open like that for more than a day unattended.

As was suggested earlier, Boatme might have an idea of where to leave it. If you need some help, I could be talked into driving your rig somewhere to store it and making sure it's back at the ramp on the day you need it back there. Be happy to help.

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

I took advice in the Sandusky Area about a launch where I could leave the rig for several days at a time and it turned out to be a good choice. I get nervous leaving it unattended even for a day. Thanks for the offer. If I can't find something suitable I may take you up on it. :drink: Do you wax it before you bring it back?

Wax? We don't need no stinkin wax!!

I only say don't leave it there because I believe it's not allowed at that ramp... it's a busy ramp. You can call the Municipal Marina at: (616) 847-3478 or (616) 842-2550 and ask them in person. One of my co-workers is married to the manager, let me know if you need any "pushing" on my part! LOL!!!

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

I'll be launching in Grand Haven on July 11th and returning from the Tarverse Bay area on July 16th. If the weather is good and I can get a slip to finish the weekend in Grand Haven I'll do that.

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

you should go to grand haven a couple of days early. smoke on the water poker run is on july 9th. 100+ of the best boats in the country. and we will be having a beech party sunday after the run 6 miles south of the grand haven pier. and i always leave my truck at that city ramp with no problems. plus thats what insurance is for.

I just got back from the Ozarks sorry i dint respond sooner

Duken I PMd you

You can leave your rig at the municipal launch area up on the area near the bathrooms

wouldn't be a bad idea to call the municipal marina and let Rich (manager) Know that it will be there all week

It is safe there many people do the same in the summer

as far as slips go we have control of the entire Municipal marina for the Smoke On The Water Poker Run on the 8th and 9th

You should enter the event and come play with us

let me know if there is more i can do to help

Marc

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

If your going to launch for your trip to the TC area I'd trailer alot further north gas will be way over $2 on the water. I'd pull right to TC and boat from there. Grelickville has a good ramp with fenced parking.... I leave my truck and trailer in ElkRapids for 2 weeks at a time never had a issue.

I never tought about the "overflow" parking area! Good call Boatme... as usual you are smarter than I am... You can park there dukenrock, no issues.

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

Dyno,

I would guess it is about the boat trip not just the destination
(just my guess)

Some guys like to take the trip and stop at all the great places along the way

That is why they call it a boat TRIP
not a boat Drop in and sit

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

Now if it were ME, and it's not, but since we're getting hypothetical here... I'd put in at Northport... ramp is in the marina right in town, nice facilities, clean water, etc... and go to all points from there. Charlevoix, Beaver Island, harbor Springs, Elk Rapids, TC, Leland, etc.... all are within an hour or two by boat.

Oh, and the bakery just around the corner from the marina has THE BEST cinamin twists in the morning.... you can often smell them from the docks... talk about advertising!!!! Mmmmmm.... :D

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

As it turns our Dukenrock, I'll probably be in the TC area the same weekend you are up there... my parents have a cottage on Glen Lake, just west of TC. I'm layed off the first two weeks of July every year, and normally spend most of that time up there fishing and "stuff."

Marc,
Dukenrock and I have been talking about his vacation for months by PM If he wants to boat in the "North country" like he and I have talked about his time is way better spent further north (IMHO) he is traveling with a group and only one boat "I believe" and It would suck if he got stuck in Ludington or another port with bad weather and have to call for a pull just to get up to T.C.

boatme 05-13-2005 08:58 AM

Re: Place to launch in Grand Haven

Don

why would it suck ?? Ludington is a cool place to get stuck or many other ports along the way as well

that is half the fun

all i am saying is the trip can be as much an adventure as the destination

I know you like to get there and put the boat in but some times the travel by boat to the destination can be just as much fun

I have done both
i have towed to TC and I have taken the lake Michigan route by water both have advantages

But if he is from out of town and doesn't boat here much i would think he would enjoy all the ports to stop at on the way (just my .02)
