Sgro-Meyer team takes lead at Marathon Gran Prix The Associated Press MARATHON, Fla. New York powerboat racers Joe Sgro and Peter Meyer drove Instigator to an easy win Saturday during the first of two races that comprise the Marathon Offshore Gran Prix in the Florida Keys. Race officials originally said they were placing Instigator fourth for incorrectly navigating a turn buoy at the end of the first lap. Later Saturday night, they overturned that decision and restored the Sgro-Meyer team to the top of the standings in the nine-boat Super Vee class. In second place is Rodriguez Group, piloted by Michel Karsenti of Cannes, France. The Miccosukee Indian Gaming boat, driven by Brett Furshman of Coral Springs and assisted by Troy Hannon of Davie, was third. Sgro and Meyer of Long Island never relinquished the lead during the 7.5-lap, 49-mile course on the Gulf of Mexico side of the Seven Mile Bridge. "We just took off and didn't look back," said Meyer, the boat's throttleman. Instigator, a 38-foot Fountain with two 525-horsepower engines, averaged 93.4 mph. The second and final race of the weekend is set for Sunday afternoon. Compilation of total points from both days of racing will determine event winners in various classes. "There's another race to go, so we'll see what happens," said Furshman. --- On the Net: Super Boat International: Can someone elaborate on this? |

thats what i was thinking. is that a production boat or is it out of a mold that is strickly for race? |
Re: Rumor has it the Instigator opens case of whoop azzz
Poker Run 42 is production model.
Race Boats can be ordered too. I'm sure they spend more time on the bottom's getting both Poker and Race hulls perfect. |

Re: Rumor has it the Instigator opens case of whoop azzz
Good question buyafountain.com??? It seems that sometime during the season that we need to get the top three SV's from different manufacturers on the race course to see who is top dog. If it was going to be a three way battle I would say it would go like this judging from that stats from the races this year.
SPIDERMAN(SKATER) vs INSTIGATOR(FOUNTAIN) vs SWITCH(EXTREME). Hopefully one day they will be on the same race course battling out soon to show us who the champ is. I really would like to see someone build an Outerlimits to run against these manufacturers. Maybe someday they will. |
Re: Rumor has it the Instigator opens case of whoop azzz
That would be awesome. Let Reggie drive and let Mike drive the OL, etc. "king of the ring" race. Any SV can run one boat/one mfg.

You should have seen Sundays racing....!
Neck and neck Instigator and Miccosuke... (I have to download my camera) Instigator got around with one lap left.. Then RAN OUT OF GAS! -There was an initial report that they were on FIRE, but then they said out of gas. I saw the boat inside the course... No flames. GREAT racing. |
Re: Rumor has it the Instigator opens case of whoop azzz
Actually they were on fire!!! Hey we have the second (new ) 42 from factory. What a boat!! This boat will outrun anything in any water !! By the way we finished second overall. As they say " to finish first, you first must finish

Re: Rumor has it the Instigator opens case of whoop azzz
no flames and not outta gas...was told the delayed the race due to sea turtles after running a lap or two, then restarted and ran the full 7 and were experiencing an overheating problem.

Let's not forget these guys used to do this with a B-Class boat. So there is some history there. It's just repeating itself... :drink: Joe especially had a reputation with FEVER. He either won the race or broke something trying.... Way to go guys! Sorry for the tough break on Sunday... :( |

Joe had an engine failure and had a small fire on Sunday, he never lapped the field in the two races.
