Satellite Radio Question ???

1 Attachment(s)
Can a satellite radio ant. be mounted inside a cabin and still receive a signal? There would be a layer of only kevlar between the ant. and the sky? All the sat. ant. are very ugly to mount on the deck. I am looking at the TekXM5. Thanks, Dave

Look at the Garmin. It looks exactly like the Garmin GPS antenna and is not as tall as the one you are looking at. I just took one of those off my boat.

Will the GPS ant. work with Sat Radio?

Re: Satellite Radio Question ???

Tried the antenna in the cabin and didn't work, needed a clear path to the sky. What I did was ran the wiring into the glove box and when ever I wanted to listen to XM just pull the antenna out and laid it on the dash. That way I didn't have that ugly antenna in plane veiw all the time, just an idea.

Sirius has a smaller antenna, I just popped out a cup holder and pulled it throuh there and used 2 sided tape to stick it on. It looks ok.

YOU CAN GO BUY A SMALLER ANTENNA THAN THAT. THEY MAKE THEM ALOT SMALLER THAN THE ONE IN THE PICTURE I WILL POST. YOU DONT NEED A "MARINE" ONE, THEY ALL WORK THE SAME.

Re: Satellite Radio Question ???

They make a smaller antenna that can be mounted on the dash or somewhere out of the way on the deck and is much more appealing to the eye. I know they have them for sirius....

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...=29&storeNum=3

but I imagine they have them for xm as well.

Re: Satellite Radio Question ???

I got a small XM antenna at Best (Worst) Buy--it's about 2" X 2" X 3/4" and the conecting wire is rally thin. I keep mine on dashboard or console in car and in shelf in cabin on boat. Works great.

The one I'm talking about is much smaller than that thing from West Marine.

I think XM antenna is different than Sirrius--
