Sarasota Races Wtf

www.findsarasota.com reads that the races this year will be viewed from Lido Beach only.
I hope this is a mistake.

What The F**k Are They Thinking, The Race Can Only Be Seen From Lido Beach.theres No Parking On A Regular Week End There. How The Fu*k Are We Going To See This Race.
Last Year I Got To Siesta At 5am And It Was Packed.

Whats Up With The Dry Pits At The Fair Grounds, dont Think All Those Big Boats Will Fit- Plus Nasty Grass, and Hauling Back & Forth To The Ramp, what Was Wrong With Being Right Net To The Ramp At The Van Wiesel?(black Top)

Man I Just Figured It Out -- They?? Want To Make This The Worst Race Of All Time So Slowly But Shirley It Will Just Fade Away.
Mother Fu*kers..........

And If Thats Not The Case ,and Some One In Charge Is Reading This I Have A 5 & A 9 Year Old Looking For Summer Work, they Are Real Good At Phucking Things Up.

damn crown tell us how you really feel :D Yea the pit move wasnt the smartest thing as for I wonder how many wrecks there will be from the grounds to the launch ramp from the old poeple getting scared with a large boat next to them. Also wonder how many boats will be in the dry pits compaired at the ramps due to the grass and it always raind during that weekend so will the dry pits be full for specs to see or at the launch ramp.

Heres the map
This is were we take a square peg and stick it in a round hole.

siesta key beach last year packed like sardines as was lido beach packed.
So my question is how do u fit all those spectator on one of the smallest beaches in Sarasota??
Not to mention the traffic on St. Armand's. The rich snob blow boaters that stopped the boat race festivities on ST. Armand's circle a few years back will just be tickled pink about this.

It's a tough to place to get around as it is, traffic and parking suck -- packing all those people in less than 1/2 the space is going to be ugly.

Re: Sarasota Races Wtf

I agree, moving the dry pits to the fairgrounds was stupid, but I'll bet it was for cost reasons. The Van Wezel has been charging more and more for the last few years now. And if it rains hard, the fairgrounds turns into a quagmire.

The race is in transition this year because of a new group taking over from the old group that ran it for 20 years although part of the old group is helping with the transition.

If they were going to run a "short" course, they should have run it the same way the Sarasota Offshore Showdown did in Aug. 03'. Run it front of Siesta. At least you have two ways on/off the island plus Siesta is MUCH larger.

Once referred to as the "Indy 500" of offshore racing, this race has been going downhill since the APBA left five years or so ago although last year was the best it had been although VERY confusing as to who was racing who.

After helping out for six years, I got so disgusted with the backdoor politics of the Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix "group" trying to cancel the Sarasota Offshore Showdown race in 03: I just withdrew. The steadfast refusal of "the old guard" of the Sarasota Offshore Racing Association (SORA) to even offer to help the SOS (which would have given them access to a whole new group of people to draw on for membership) ultimately led to the demise of SORA which is no longer. It was the oldest sanctioned race club in the country. The membership of SORA had become so apathetic, that at the last SORA poker run, not one single boat showed up. Sad.....
The club desperatelly needed a "blood transfusion" and they had the chance, but the "old blood" blew it. Plain and simple. And the mistake was fatal.

DIRECT TOWING (941)365-6823 will be there to pull everyone out of the mud! We are right down the street and the Fairgrounds are our account. CALL US IF YOU NEED US.

ALSO, SECURITY MAX IS CLOSER TO THE RAMP AND HAS PLENTY OF ROOM AND A HARD SURFACE TO STORE BOATS. :D

Well their is one good thing to come out of this,,
The course is so small this year Im thinking 1/2 tank of fuel = faster boats..
Are they measuring this course by miles or yards??

Re: Sarasota Races Wtf

I agree with Crown and Formula having the pits at the fair grounds is stupid and racing in front of Lido in even worse. I hope that for the sake of the race it turns out better than I suspect!

Addiction I heard one of your old drivers might be back for that weekend and maybe able to help out!!

Hey B,B I want to be out at the start /finish line, I have a buddy with a sea ray 32' I'm thinking about just rafting up to each other instead of putting up with the traffic coming of the island.

It should take about 2 or 3 hours to get from Lido to 301.

Crown
We will probably be out on a boat also. I might take the cig but I dont know if I feel like dealing with it that weekend. If not we will take out one of my uncles boats. Unfortunalty the Hatteras is going to be in the Bahamas then. So it will be the deck boat most likley (eaiser to party on) I will keep in touch and we can meet up. Allan is going to be down that week too.

Blah.. Blah.. Blah Blahh. And to close to Only real boat ramp for less than what 45 boat to race this event. Let's see what 35 boat at each SBI event so far this year. Let see how many boats show up in Marathon to keep the average going to what less than 30 racing.

Boat ramp closed the entire Thu-Sun to have the boats moved to Robarts each day after testing, and testing is only a few hours each day. With over 20,000 boats registered in the county- to close the ramp entirely for the amount boats that race in SBI is the kicker here... I bet no Supercats even show up for this race. Talk about headlines with this event.

I'm sure the PRESS in Sarasota will have fun with this on the weekend. They are calling for comments and quotes already..

Re: Sarasota Races Wtf

I hear ya about the closing the boat ramps. In the Aug. 03 Sarasota Offsore Showdown, we were REQUIRED to keep two ramps open (4 launch lanes) for the general public to use. I can't even begin to figure out the logic of whatever bonehead decided all the ramps had to be closed for the reasons you stated. That really pisses me off. With all the boats going back to "Mudville" it's not like parking is going to be an overwhelming problem. Back when there were 90 boats or more I could see it, but not with the boat count what it is these days. It's just plain not necessary and a major inconviience for a lot of people that support these races.

That is the reason that I am not going to take the Bullet out I dont feel like having to trailer it so far away to launch it when I live two miles from the ramp. All the other smaller ramps will be packed and they are small anyway.

Not sure where you live but the ramp in Nokomis isn't too far away. From the US41/John Ringling Causeway intersection it will take you 25/30 minutes to get there. Although it's not my favorite it will launch a boat. Have to be careful at dead low tide though be sure to tuck your drives up a bit.

Venice RR station is a good ramp but a little steep. PLENTY of water though.

Pretty decent parking at both spots. Just a suggestion.

I'm going to email Lou Anne Palmer (city commissioner) and ask her why they can't keep a couple of lanes open.
