I was 15 in a 34 foot Vyper Powerquest. We got in and it was dead calm. By time I got a mile offshore we were in 8-10's. The weater radio was calling for 3-5's and after we got offshore on the open water the winds shifted to the north. The radio changed it's tune in 25 minutes. My dad dumped my mother and I in Glen Arbor Michigan in the Sleeping Bear Bay. I would have to agree with Nykamp. The waters near Leland in the Manitou Islands can be quite dangerous. Needless to say the 34 got knocked around like a toy by the lake. Luckly I can say I haven't been in water as bad as some of you!!! The stories are amazing. Be safe out there! I leanred quickly that northern Lake Michigan can be brutal, just like any other body of water! Don't ever take the sea's for granted
