I just called NAPA and the WIX 51060 is the equivalant of the NAPA 1060. They also have a 1060R, which is the same filter but has an anti drain system in it where the oil stays in the filter. (?) Someone had also mentioned a 1061R, which is the same specs as the 1060R, only slightly taller. (each are $11.99) I guess I'll go witht the 1060R and stick with those. Thanks for the input.

You should beable to buy the at Napa for a little over 7.00 Don't pay retail.

One of the #'s 1060 0r 1061 they said they quit making. Use the one with the R It has a different element and the case is thicker.

I use the Napa 1222R . R is for Racing. :drink:


Stay away from the Frams I have seen 4 failures lately!!!

Definitely PM Hydrocruiser...he's the most knowledgeable around!!! I believe the best on the market from what I've read is the Mobil One filters as they are made with synthetic media...all others are paper media. The Wix/Napa ranked pretty high as well and that is what I use on my 500:).

Just picked up the 1060R's, $11.00 each! I told them I knew Strip and I think that's why they charged me more than the $7.00. Did you mess with his girl? :eek:

Oh yeah, Napa 1060 Gold $5.99, but too tall to fit in the stock location on the 454 Mag :rolleyes:

Dealer price on it is around 7 bucks.Its still a good filter even at 11.oo .cut one open and compare when ya get a chance.

A recent Oil filter study had a list of recommended and non recommended filters here are their findings:

Not Recommended:

So you see it's easy to pick an oil filter. The Purolator/Mobil-1 and Amsoil filters are the lowest particle size trapping filters as they are <10 micron filters

The Fram HP traps to 15 microns but flows extremely well.

The A/C filter traps to about 15 microns and flows about as good as the best flowing filters and only costs $ 5.00. I used many A/C filters for years and with frequent Redacp changes they are real good and cheap. The Mercurry Marine filters are 17 micron filters and are pricey.

You know my personal pick for a stock engine up to
500-600 HP is the Mobil-1 filter. If I had an engine that was in the 800-1050 range I would look into a dual bypass filtration system or go with a Fram racing.

Particles as small as 8 microns act as sandpaper and will do damage. Lack of flow is a problem too. It's a balancing act.

If I were to want the ultimate set-up I would go with the Amsoil Marine filtration system. It is really something made for oil geeks like me. :drink:

As it removes water...it is an amazing device...I would want this for my engines as getting moisture out as well as having very small trapping abilities and outstanding flow make it the best thing going.

They are easy to install...duall bypass sytems...flilter everything out and are only about $ 350 complete for 2 engines. It is my top pick if you have the $$ or desire for the best of the best.
