This drive is actually for a friend his is a 92. I Owned a 90 221 Liberator for about 4 years before replacing it with a Fountain. I loved the liberator, after doing some motor work is was fairly quick & ran great, I too started having drive problems (wouldn't go into reverse all the time). The boat started nickle and diming me to death. After final repairs I figured it was a good time to move on. Its unfortunate, I had put alot of money into the boat, complete new intereior fixed all the gelcoat, hated to see it go!!! :(
But then again replaced it with a nice boat so not to many regrets. :D

i saw your post... i'm about to buy a 1990 221 libby, with a 454 just like yours... do you think it's worth it? the boat seems mint, but it has that cobra/king cobra out drive... i was told by a mechanic up in Ma. that to put on a bravo would be simple, just line up the jig (which he has) and drill the holes, fill in the others with dowls and that's it!! he claims to have done tons of them, the exact same conversion and that it only takes a few hours to do....

i have also come across a formula 242LS with a busted up 454... it runs but need a rebuild... the boat seems really good otherwise... do you think i should go for the formula? i just love the lines of the libby tho....

thanks for any advice!!

There is a good chance that you can use a Volvo drive without changing the template holes and cut out.
Because of the OMC/Volvo joint venture the transom assemblies could be the same.
It's an option.
