242 hands down. I had a twin 242, and I still miss that boat.

I was is the same boat, I was looking at late 80s early 90s Baja 240s and Formula 242s. I ended up with the Formula as you can see from my screen name. The cabin and cockpit areas were hands down better in the Formula, quality and room. From the test drives I went on, the Baja was faster since it was lighter. Saw about 62 with a 454 mag in the Baja and 59 with the same motor in the formula. (GPS) The quality of the Formula was just so much nicer too me. The material of the seats and things like that seemed more durable. I ended up with an 88 242 with a 502, and I love it. Only thing is I wish I had the bolster seats like the one you are looking at.

Another thing is with the Silent Thunder platform the 242 Looks like a much bigger boat.

If you own the existing Baja and wanted to step up to a 242 Formula and throw in the extra $5000 I would not do it. I would keep the Baja and later step up to a 28'-30' range boat. for an extra $10,000.

If you were looking at buying either boat and did not own the Baja, then I would consider the extra $5000. and the years of the boats are relevant.

I would buy the formula hands down. Not even a question. Good luck.

It seems that the Formula 242s w/bolsters are somewhat rare. It is a nice boat. Do you have a buyer for your Baja yet? If towing, storage, etc. are not issues i would get a bigger boat.

The formula-not even a contest.

The Formula 242 is built like a tank. With the formula you will get top quality build, fit-finish, and components. unfortunately, some areas are not obvious to the eye, ie: wiring. The back side of a Formula instrument panel looks like machine tool wiring. Formula may not be the fastest, but it's more like a floating Mercedes.

Formula is it for me, I just stepped up to 96 303, had 271 before, loved it, quality, service, resale, yes it is worth the additional $5,000, sold my 271 for same I paid for it 3-years previous, Baja may be faster and is a good bang for the buck.

ok ok the formula is a nicer boat...... I will take a serious look at the boat and crunch some numbers. We'll see how things work out. Worst thing that could happen I am out on the lake with my Baja
