Default Proper way to backflush 496 ho's?

Just curious about the proper way to backflush my 496 ho's? What hose do you pull and insert garden hose and what hose do you pull on the other end to let everything out? I need to get the river crap out of the oil coolers. Thanks for any advice.

If it is only the cooler just remove the hose from both sides and flush. If it is the entire engine remove the t-stat and the hose at the raw water pump and have at it. With the first way you can flush both ways and really clean it out. Do you know there is stuff clogging the oil cooler? You should be able to see thru it. If you don't remove both ends you are just pushing the crud into the raw water pump and it will be pushed back when you start it again. Do you have a circulating pump or a cross over? (circ pump looks like an automotive water pump on the front)

My starboard engine is easy to remove the inlet hose to the oil cooler and remove debris and yes this is where everything gets hung up it seems. On the other hand, the oil cooler on the port engine is impossible to reach, so I need to know the proper hoses to deal with to blow the crap out of the oil cooler on the port engine? If you're facing the engine, I've pulled the right hose from the heat exchanger, but the water comes out the outdrive pick ups. I tried to pull the inlet hose off the air drain system that your fresh water comes into also, but that was a *****, so I gave up. Would this be the hose to pull to let the oil cooler crap out? If so I'll try again.
