Default OPA's Atlantic City Race Is Cancelled:

I just got this email yesterday from the club:

Hello Race Fans,

After all the recent build up over the Atlantic City race it pains me
to tell you that the race has been officially cancelled. It’s been
cancelled for several reasons, lack of sponsors, lack of volunteers, other
engagements and so on. OPA has worked hard and spent a ton of money
bringing a race back to A/C and it’s difficult to give up the site, but
without sponsorship dollars it just isn’t practical to run this race
again. OPA extends its apology for anyone this may inconvenience in any
way. Sorry.

That makes the next OPA race St Clair Michigan with the Offshore Super
Series teams. This should be a terrific event with the Jersey Boys
going head to head with the Great Lakes teams. The Performance Class race
will be followed by an afternoon of OSS racing. It should be an exciting
event and all OPA team are encouraged to participate, as this will be
an OPA points race.

This puts all the local focus on the newly moved and renamed Ortley
Beach race now known as Jersey Shore Marina Presents the Jersey Boyz
Offshore Grand Prix hosted by The Surf Club.

The new course will run from Ocean Beach to just south of the Surf Club
around a five-mile modified trapezoid (four turns, with the outside leg
being shorter than the inside leg). The pits for this race will be at
Jersey Shore Marina & Boat Sales. This is the marina on Rt 70 East, just
before it intersects with Rt 88 at the old Laurelton Circle. On
Thursday, the pits will be alive with vendors, race boats and even a dunk the
racer tank. On Thursday, we’ll also have race boat testing available on
the Metedeconk River. It should be a fun location.

On Friday, August 12th, the races will start at noon with at least two
races. The Super Vee Light grudge match will be followed by the five
classes of OPA boats. Depending on the turn out, we might have a third
race. Since this race doesn’t conflict with any other race, we are hoping
to draw some boats that don’t usually come up this way. As the race
gets closer we’ll list some of the expected teams.

Sorry about A/C but we’ll make it up to you in Ortley Beach.

See ya in St Clair,

Ron

Honestly,
I felt the OPA had way too much on their plate for their first year of taking over.
Quality is way better than Quantity.
Now perhaps this may help with making the Surf Club in Ortley Beach, NJ's biggest race ever!

Loosing Jenks hurts but I have to say that moving down the beach seven miles to the surf club has brought a renewed level of excitement to this event. We've been in Point Pleasant for 37 years and the town was bored of it. They never really cared if we raced there or not. So down the beach we go. Here's the map of the new course. - Same dates - Friday August 12th.

As for A/C - OPA (Kurt) lost about $25K there (not on the tables) the first year and $10K last year. The town doesn't help in any way, Trumps raises their room and slip fees and the casinos want people inside not outside. Talk about not feeling wanted, so we dropped it.

So the next OPA race is in St Clair with the Great Lakes teams and the OSS fleet. Then onto Ortley in August.

In September the Cambridge race might turn into something huge and Camden is talking about a purse that should draw a big fleet. So, OPA is doing just fine, and the rest of the season should be great.

All the info is on www.oparacing.com and if you join the email list, we'll send you updates as they happen.

Ron

It's ok Panther.

5 Races in one season is quite a bit to do, but they have a handle on it.

Bottom line, race where you are wanted and a much better time will be had by all!
