any one know the cost of mercs extended warranty for merc 496 ho's

Between $5000 to $6000 each engine for 5 years of Mercury Extended Warranty. Don't ask where I got mine, as that marina is now under new ownership.

I paid less than 3K per side on my previous boat. Let me know if you need the dealers number.

I was about to buy the Mercury plan and decided to go with Passport. It was alot cheaper with similar coverage. Passport was bought out by by Brunswick Corporation, so I figured why not.

I don't know the dollar amount but I do know that there is a huge markup on the extended warranties, you should be able to get quite a bit off and they will still make money, the dealer markup is incredible.
