Best Ramp in/near Port Clinton, OH & other PIB Questions
I'd like to visit Put-in-Bay at least once this season. I'm in a smaller boat (22' cuddy), so the goal is to launch wherever gives me the shortest ride across Erie. I'm thinking i should put in at or near Port Clinton (Catawba looks even closer?) and just follow one of the ferry routes. Which ramps won't mind me leaving the truck/trailer overnight?
Other PIB questions, what kind of water should i expect on this run? Doesn't look bad on the charts, but Erie scares me. Should i leave/return at first light?
Finally, is my boat even big enough for PIB? What i mean is, i don't want to be the only boat under 25' rafted off at the city docks.
Any other PIB info greatly appreciated.... thanks.

State park at Catawba Island. Have fun! Aproch th Island from the west. No major problems out there, just follow another boat in. Lots of smaller boats there.

If it's a weekend, the crossing will be pretty choppy. Like washing machine effect from all the boats.
The advice to approach from the west is the ticket. If you have a gps, it should keep you out of trouble. Come around the west side and then turn south around Gibralter and go south into the marina area.
I wouldn't want to have a 22 on the western end of Lake Erie if there's a NE wind.
It's a good thing to be wary of Erie. Just keep an eye on the weather.

Better to stop in at "The Casino" at Kelley's Island on the way over (and back) to break up the trip . Have fun and remember to TIP the dockmasters !
