I have the simrek halos as well, one of the original ones had broken, I ran in one weekend and noticed chalking and discoloration after about 10 hrs, ordered a set on mon put them on on thurs, drives are back to being shiney and running cool :)

The reason I prefer the Simrek showers is that the water inlet is on the side forward. As opposed to straight down. The photo below shows the difference. Some people are under the impression when the opening is straight down the water spinning from the prop is forced up. My experience is that this is not true. The prop movement is forcing water back and away from the boat. Just my .02.

I would say they are helpful on any drive. cheap insurance on an expensive item.

True they do, but the halo system tested on an xr that directed water to the sides ran 10 degrees cooler than their own one that directed water to the top.
From the simrek site;
"Think of it like this; if you wanted to boil water in a pot, would you rather use a pot that is one inch thick or 1/8 of an inch thick. Obviously the water would be heated much faster in the thinner pot. The same principals are true when it comes to cooling something. The top bearing cap is over an inch thick, the sides of the drive are less than 1/8th of an inch thick. The thinner the material, the easier it is to wick the temperature of the drive oil inside through the casing. So the most efficient cooling system would be one that targets the sides of the drive. So again, why do most drive cooler manufacturers target the top bearing cap? The other component that is critical for cooling the drive is the amount of water the system can process and apply to the drive casing on a continuous basis."

I have a pair of the Halo's from www.driveshowers.com for several years. You can't see my drives while underway due to the spray. They work. Check out their research, picts and references.

Paul Kermis is "Mr. Customer Service", he'll even answer his emails and make phone calls on weekends.

Takes longer to get the courage to drill the holes. ;)
10 min job at most.

I will use nothing but the Halo from Simrek. Seen mine work in action. TONS of water.
