Catalina is worth a day, or if you can find a spot there are several nice small hotels. Also stop in the bar at the Del Coronado (I could never afford to actually STAY there) and look around, great architecture. Might as well also plan a day to bop down to Tijuana and hit a few bars and browse the shops, park on the US side and walk across, don't drive over or it will take forever to get back.

I agree, go over the bridge to Coranado and go have a drink or diner at the Hotel Del Coranado and watch the NAVY SEALS train in the surf and on the beach.

The aircraft carrier Midway is now a museum in the harbor......it opened last year and we spent about 3 hours going through that thing....get there early!!

The SCOPE (www.SCOPEinfo.com) club will have about 14 boats down there from Thursday until Sunday....staying at the Lowes Coranado. BUT we are stopping at the Barefoot Bar for lunch on the way down.

hey...
definitely hit the hotel del....it's one of the world's largest wooden hotels, and the craftsmanship is awesome...
..i've heard balboa island is cool....though it's a bit north
and old town....i think the place there is diego's...but it's been a while...try croce's for blues, but it'll be a cab ride from any marina...

..if you have time....hit blackie's near the pier in newport beach..if frank's still there, tell him the irish gang's friend , chris, from connecticut, says thanks, and try a pickled egg....
....ENJOY!!

I truly appreciate the insights into the area, we are taking a break from all of these hurricanes in Florida, and would like to see how the West Coast turns it up!! Very cool about SCOPE being there!! I will definitely show up for that!!! Let me know who needs a hand buying them drinks!@!!!
