Which is a better drive a Imco Extreme or Bravo 1

Looking at a boat with a Imco Extreme drive. Is this a better or more desirable drive than a Mercruiser Bravo 1 ? I do not know anything about the Imco.

It's a big time upgrade from a Bravo. What kind of power does the boat have?

I have no personal experience, but if you do a search you'll find some negative threads on imco.

Mercruiser stands behind any Bravo drive. Imco tells you that once the drive is installed on the boat there is no longer any warranty. Not too hard to figure this one out.

I can show you a hundred negative threads on Bravos. There's one in the Q & A section now about Xr's, the guy has broken three in the last year. I destoryed a Bravo this year. They are junk if you run any real hp. Most people that break an Imco have real power, enough to kill a Bravo on the first trip. The imco 4 X 4 is the real deal, Imco steering is high quality stuff.

Has anybody ever broke an Imco hydraulic steering set up?
Has anybody ever broke an Imco drive with a 454 mag? 502 mag? 496 ho? Probably, but how many have broken a POS Bravo with those stock black motors?????? A sh!t load I'll bet.

You can also search and find any motor over 500HP will shortly blow the hell out of a Bravo. Imco's sell for twice what Bravo's do and I will guarantee you anyone will gladly swap you out some fresh Bravo 1's for those Imco's. I will cowboy up right now...If you are willing to trade the Imco's for Bravo's I have two Bravo's to trade. I will even pay shipping!

Put a 700 hp blower motor in boat and ask an authorized Mercury dealer to honor a 1 year warranty on a Bravo 1. If you aren't buddies with the guy it's not happening.

So it pays to make friends with your local Mercruiser dealer. Freinds or not there's no warranty on the Imco.
