Safely lifting the transom slightly off the trailer ??

I want to clean the boat where it sits under the bunks of my trailer. I have a 4 x 6 block of wood that I cut a U shape in, to match the shape of the bottom and used a hydraulic floor jack in the past with a smaller boat.. would it be safe to lift a 28 footer in a single spot within a foot of the transom on the keel ????

I have no idea about that.... but i lifted the corner of my 1984 30' scarab up and off the trailer bunks with a 3 ton engine hoist hooked to the rear transom u-bolts for the trailer starps a few years back......it was scary......and i worked super fast fearing that it would let go and fall back down on the trailer but it never did.

Picking up at the keel should be fine. The closer to the transom the better.

On my 29' I mounted a 2' long 2 x 6 to my trolley jack and was able to pick the keel up about 6". Just keep an eye on the bow rollers etc. Supported it with blocks between hull and bunk boards whilst I worked on it.

lifting from the keel should be no problem just as was said stay close to the transom be sure to block the front of the trailer so the strain you will create by lifting the stern does not sit all the weight on your trailer jack. if you have an aluminum trailer you can easily warp the frame if you do not support it

Get a couple of screw jacks from a local marina (borrow or rent) and place them under the rear corners of the boat after lowering the trailer tongue all the way down. Tighten the screw jacks up against the boat and then raise the trailer tongue as high as you need it to lift the rear of the boat off the bunks. This is how I remove trailers from under boats when I need to place the boat on stands.
