Progressive is Mediocre

My insurance premium is coming due again, which means that i've owned the boat now for one year. hooray. but anyways, i dont want to stay with Progressive, so...

does anyone out there have suggestions for good, cheap boat insurance?
or are there any agents on OSO that i could give some business?

Let me know... thanks

What problem are u having with Progressive?

Re: Progressive Sux

Really not having any problems... never had to make a claim. I think they are too expensive ($930/yr for a 24ft Fountain) and i have heard bad things.

Plus due to some problems with getting my mail, and me just being lazy... my policy just lapsed this morning... so i figured i would look for something else

Re: Progressive Sux

I have only had 1 claim on my Progressive policy which was handled promptly. Premium went up the next year, but the following year it went back down because only one claim in 4 years. Your premium sounds about right in line with mine.

I get all my billing/correspondence online from their website, which works well.

Let us know if you beat their price.

Re: Progressive Sux

I got screwed by Progressive. I had a raccoon get into the boat over the winter. Pissed, crapped all over the place. Also shreded the seats, cushons and headliner in the cabin. Just trashed it. Progressive said sorry, because of a little exclusion, "if other than by rodent, vermon or animal". They said no to the claim. I guess at 300 bucks a year you get what you pay for. Read the fine print.

I have had some customers that have had "Progressive" nightmares when a big claim is needed.

Re: Progressive Sux

I had Progressive on my Bullet for the last two years. Their prices are competitive and didn't increase at all. I just just my renewal for next year...(which I won't need because I sold the boat) and it stayed the same price.

You can't say that for Markel, they have everyone by the balls and take advantage of it :(

I just settled my totaled truck with Progressive. No problems at all, and they kept me informed every step of the way.

That's kind of like having your boat fast and reliable!! :D :D

Joking aside, I've always had good dealings with Progressive. I also know my agent pretty well and she goes the extra mile on a lot of things.

The guys at Worldwide are great. They have been a help since I am not 25 yet. That seems to be the magic number. They can help and have helped us for the past 12 years or so.

I currently have State Farm wich is half of what I was paying through Progressive, the only problem was they wouldn't insure me until I insured my house and truck through them.

Re: Progressive Sux

I spent all day leaving messages for Bob @ Worldwide, even left all of my personal info with his girl and waited for a quote all day......... nothing, not even a call. So there sits my brand new boat in the driveway uninsured, only days after my buddy's 40 Skater burned to the ground and surrounded by lightning storms. I went to progressive online and got a quote and signed up. Cant risk it. Hey Bob, put my application for a quote in the shredder please. Worst part is I probably paid too much.

Premium seems high to me. I was paying $425 a year for a 26' Scarab w/ 502. Less than half what your premium is through my State Farm agent.

I have been heavily pursuing a Cig Bullet as my next purchase. My annual premium will be about $200 less than what you are paying for a single engine 24' boat.

Farmers Insurance blows big time, never had a claim, been with them for 17 years, hit a submerged object and needed a lower unit, DID NOT COVER it!

Re: Progressive Sux

from what i hear i can get it for half of what i pay now... i am also under 25 so that could be my major problem... sent in a bunch of quote requests yesterday and will call some people today... i'll let y'all know how i do.

I had Progressive and switched when they quoted me $3,500 a year for my motorcycle (GSXR-1000). I had been with them for many years (with no claims and I'm 36 years old) and couldn't believe the price. I switched to State Farm. $340 a year for the bike and $395 a year for my Boat!

Re: Progressive Sux

I'm insured with Progressive but I'm right up against their threshold. I had to initial a form stating my boat is not over 500hp and will not go over 75mph. My boat with a 525 hits 73 and is right at 500 hp. I pay just over $900. I call a bunch of other insurers and they would not insure the boat for it's length (28) and hp.

I am not sure why if they are charging you that much they suck. Boy I hope all my customers that know that they can get stuff from Best buy for less don't think that I suck.
