New!!! Konrad 540 Bravo conversion

3 Attachment(s)
In response to the recent thread on the most durable drive/engine packages, I thought I'd post a few pics of our newest product. Dimentions of the box are very similar to the Merc ITS.

This system is designed specifically to bolt right up to any boat that does not have the room to move the motors forward. (most bravo applications) The transmission tail shaft is located inside the extension box.

Also, this new system incorporates a full hydraulic WPM steering system to simplify installation.

As a side note for Merc XR users, the Konrad 540 drive shares the same size propshaft spline (1.25") as the Merc XR.

Look out, Merc!!! What's it rated for, Kurt? I'm assuming the tranny is included? Who builds the transmission, is it Konrad or someone else?

Details, man, we need details! :)

Re: New!!! Konrad 540 Bravo conversion

Pretty neat!! So it kind of has the theme of the 4X4 (Trans is located in the extension box.)

Can you PM me details on pricing etc. for the complete package.

Nice looking!

Re: New!!! Konrad 540 Bravo conversion

dockrocker,

The drive system is rated at a very conservative 740 ft lbs of torque. Tranny is your choice although we reccommend the BAM Cyborg series.

Panther,

This is a brand new unit. At this time, pricing has not been established. I should know by the end of the week. I'll send over a PM as soon as I get the figures together.

As soon as I get more info I'll post it here.

Kurt

Biggus, since you started this thread, I'll post my ?s here.

With the extension box, you dont need external steering?

Also, have many boat manufacturers done Konrad installs? If so, which?
Would you say that a manufacturer willing to do an install can do this properly? How about a good rigging shop? or would you say the best thing to do is to send the boat to Konrad like you did?

GL,

The Konrad 540 drive is rated very conservatively at 740 ft/lbs of torque. Although we have tested them at much higher levels without failure; (1200 hp in a single engine 26' cat) we feel it is best suited for the 600-800 hp range.

Pricing will be determined by the end of the week. This is a brand new unit.

Propshaft dia. is the same as an XR, 1.25"

Gear ratios for the 540: 1.21:1, 1.33:1, 1.51:1, 1.69:1 we also offer a 1.09:1 for special applications (light single engine diesel)

Warranty is one year at the rated power level.

Stormrider,

This particular extension system comes complete with WPM external hyd steering.

We've worked with dozens of new boat builders all over the world in our commercial applications. The performance boat market is relatively new to us. The installation process is very straightforward. The prototype unit in the above pictures was shipped to a well known performance boat manufacturer for further testing and evaluation.

Yes, any competent rigger should be able to handle the installation with ease. Konrad Marine is not an installation facility, we prefer to have our dealers handle the install.

Good luck with these....I hope you deal a serious wakeup call to Merc. to lower their REDICULOUS PRICES :D

other than lasting longer, what preformance gains would you see over bravos, without boxes?

Looks cool. Any plans for an extension box for the other drives? (ie. TRS)

Yes, we already offer several other extension box systems with up to 14" of set back.

I have XR's with boxes. Would I loose speed if I switched to Konrad's? I was told the transmissions would take from 5-7mph off the top speed.

The boat is a 386 Sonic, 650hp 575 SCi's

Biggus, Is there a shift able drive? no trans required to follow soon too

The transmissions are 1:1, the only loss from spinning the tranny would be from the viscous drag of the fluid and that's only a couple qts. No way could you lose 5-7 mph there.

I'm not sure about the speed issue. The 540 HP lower is extremely efficient hydrodynamically. The was much R&D put into the development of this lower.

You would be adding some weight over the existing Bravo package. A rough guess per side would be @ 130 lbs/side.

mtm,

Yes, we have been working on a shiftable drive. At this time we have a working prototype and it's proved to be extremely durable but it's a long way from production.

Do you need a local boat to do water testing I would volunteer to try a set The shiftable drive is going to be the ticket I'm interested

I was curious about the hp loss in my Huber trans, and called Huber last year. Small operation, great guy.. Claims his trans' were tested and only eat 13hp max. I imagine the other High performance trans' would be about the same..........

I realize this thread is incredibly old and I can't find any info online about it so I assume I already know the answer but...did this ever happen?? I found all the info in the world about the trs to Konrad but did a bravo conversion ever get made/produced??

thanks

B38 10-07-2018 12:43 PM

Yes, still available. Just go to Konrad.com

BBYSTWY 10-07-2018 02:23 PM

really??? all I saw was 520/540 trs conversions...have to do a little more digging on their site I guess...thanks

BBYSTWY 10-07-2018 02:23 PM

Any real world experience with a bravo conversion from them anyone?? as compared to an XR/Imco or the like??

ttuton 10-07-2018 05:36 PM

Looks like a pair just came up in the classifieds.

cigrocket 10-07-2018 08:35 PM

Ace Package, Bam 1350 transmission in the extension box. Saw a pair installed on a velocity with 800 HP, guy just got them, so I don’t know reliability. This was quite a few years ago. Looked slick, and installation was easy

BBYSTWY 10-07-2018 09:47 PM

That’s just the trs conversions in the classifieds isn’t it?? I saw them but I’m looking for the bravo specific ones still I can’t find on their website?? Maybe I’m missing something but specifically the trans in the extension box is what I’m looking for??

Stern Drives 1 col ? Konrad Marine Stern Drives

hotstang46 10-08-2018 09:49 AM

Those are my drives on the classifieds. The Konrad is a big beefy drive. And I do mean big, if you put it next to a bravo it literally dwarfs it. It is definitely going to cost you speed vs a bravo but they will keep you on the water and give you piece of mind. Plus wow, what a difference docking. You lose that bravo clunk every time you go in and out of gear. My father tried driving my boat after having cruisers with bravos his whole life and he was in disbelief on how smooth the whole set up is. I will never buy a bravo performance boat again, and if it's a recreational (non performance) I'll go Volvo.

I'll add too, great people over there at Konrad. I hope you have great success with your new drive!

Any pics of how the trans sits in there? WHat gears does Konrad use? XR? I was told they use XR, buddy has one apart now the lower gear on propshaft is huge, I am not Bravo smart that's why I ask if same gear or not...
