Which cat?

Hi everyone?

Thinking of having someone build me a cat with a pair of 850 SCi's. I like the idea of pump fuel. Does anyone know how much power these actually put out with 87 octane?

I suppose one cannot go wrong with 40 ft Skater with a quarter canopy, right? What are the tradeoffs with something like MTI and Nor-tech that seem to be popular here? They're probably cheaper.

I also heard that 36 footer would be better on Havasu due to some restrictions on larger boats...does this make any sense or is it just BS?

What are issues between 36, 40, 44 ft (approximately) cats in general?

Cool site.

:D :D :drink: :drink:

first, i don't think you want to run the 850's on 87 for very long, i think the knock system is basically a safe mode type deal, really designed to have 91 in it all the time....

there was a 32 skater at the miami boat show that was a rocket with 850's in it....

second, the 40 skater is a great choice, but i would also look at the MTI's (i don't know if they are cheaper....) they are set-up the same way (no cabin, sit down)... the nor-tech's will come with a cuddy cabin with berth, potti, sink... mti's will seat 4, skater 5, nor-tech 5 (on the 36-40 models)

if the race circuit is any indicator, the MTI's are faster...

there is a restriction at Havasu in the channel.... i don't know the exact details on that...

i wouldn't imagine you need anything much bigger than the 36 at havasu, i don't think it gets real rough there.... if you are gonna run other places that get rougher, i would step up a size or two... 39-42 seems the right length these days...

:( :( Hate to disappoint you, BUT. The MTI is probably going to be more money and take longer to get.

I wouldn't go bigger than a 36' cat for Havasu. The perfect size cat for the lake is probably a 32' Skater. You cannot launch the 36' in some places because it's too big. You will also need pemits to transport the 36'...I think the 32' is within the limits.

32 is technically too wide too.... it's 9'4 or something like that... and most today are built with a wider tunnel so they are 10'0"...
