Default Stupid Questions

Hi,
Kind of new to this forum and high performance boat, you guys are talking about: hook in the hull and something like X measurements, can you explain what these terms means.

Hook in the hull refers to the last few inches of the bottom of the boat at the transom being a small bit deeper than the rest of the running surface. If you put a straight edge along the bottom you could see an air gap for a short distance. This is sometimes is referred to as rocker. Builders do this to help a boat get on plane. "X" dimension refers to where the centerline of the engine crankshaft goes through the transom to attach the out drive. This determines where the prop shaft is in relation to the running surface of the hull. Joe Murray
